Quite bluntly there is no real “need” to fly off for a holiday. It might have been a nice acceptable thing to do from the 1960’s onwards but times and the realisation of the environmental damage of such essentially frivolous behaviour have changed the perception of acceptability.
The behaviour of these greedy, self centred and self serving egotists highlighted by this is typical of their type. Indicative of their arrogance and uncaring attitude.

@Bronco what ?!

But I bet she has "used her platform" to promote green policies. Isn't that good enough?
Really, there is no "need" to eat meat, use plastics, internal combustion, etc., the pre-Meiji peasant didn't need any of that to survive (granted, their life pretty much was terrible).

Austerity, even for a good cause like addressing climate change, was always meant for the 99%.
But for these celebrities it could be argued that frequent travel is an essential part of the occupation of being an actor or singer.
The politicians jetting around for photo ops and conferences and vacationing billionaire oligarchs don't have this excuse.

Fake news really. Consider all the co2 used in war and especially training cuz our supposed leaders can’t tell the truth about our debt economy and must find enemies to justify their power seats. More distractions from the finger pointers who never look in the mirror.

Even if you could dodge the strikes in the UK, most musicians tour luggage would be too large to travel by train. They may as well fly with it.
Lose the bullying witch hunt mentality. We can all do something to reduce our carbon footprint without living in caves. You might think that our small differences don't matter, but there are 7.7bn of us, so small changes scale.
If you campaign to ban people from doing anything that you personally don't want to do, you will not win hearts and minds, you will just create enemies and initiate pushback.

I used to join the Critical Mass (leftist movement that demands more bikes less cars on the roads) in my teens, these people demand everyone to cycle 5km to work, or else you're pure evil. Communists finally realized they cant win so they've been pushing pretty hard to make the West implode from within

Johnny Depp has been tied up in court most of the year so don't blame him.
Spacey and Will Smith are in hiding, so not them.
Tom Cruise, whizzing around in those jet fighters - and those things are thirsty - has more than made up for it.
"How dare you!!!"

Some of these same celebrities are those who preach down to the proles about reducing their carbon footprint (Leo DiCaprio, George Clooney, John Kerry, AlGore, to name a few...)
The Avenger
It's ridiculous. That goes for all celebrities- even those who talk about climate change.

Everyone's a climate criminal

Pretty sure the label was directed squarely at celebs who have abandoned their tour bus for private jets.
It wasn't that long ago that even superbands like the Eagles would tour off a bus, then they got a bit more luxury and upgraded to a Winnebago, but now it seems 'times are a changing' and nothing but 20000ft lounge will do.

And then I get attacked for owning a car ( hybrid need for work I have a serious heart problem and I regularly need to transport large items for my business) .
But Wait why only air flights.
I live in a 100 m2, house, we are 4 adults ( 2 adult children my wife and I) no central heating or cooling we only cool (or heat in the case of the other 3 Japanese winter I never needed heating) only the room we are in.
Taylor Swift for example has 8 houses in 4 states all fully central heating and cooling.
The others are no better.
Who needs 8 houses?
Antiquesaving
???? What are you going on about now?
Yes for the most part but in the last several years, in Hokkaido and elsewhere, they are building fully insulated and heated homes.
Yes They are premium homes but they are available.
Antiquesaving
And from that you concluded I want or need 8 houses "8"?
Nope still not getting your point!

From a 14-minute flight by Drake's private plane to Taylor Swift's carbon footprint, celebrities are struggling to shake off a firestorm over their jet emissions amid the climate crisis.
They aren't breaking any laws. What's the big deal? If they stop flying that will make a significant change to the environment?

Bless her.

This is a sad fact of Japan. And the quality of the houses is extremely low compared to those in the UK, Europe, the US. It's like a third world approach to building houses here and leaving out central heating, cooling, no insulation, no flash under the house etc..
Antiquesaving
Careful someone here gets really upset if you say anything negative about Japan and will stalk you if you do!

The whole premise of a "carbon footprint" is a scam designed to force us into a low standard of living where "we'll own nothing and be happy" while the real crooks, the WEF types, do what they please. These celebrities are irritating and some of them are shills, but they're not really the problem.

Back on topic please.

The aviation sector is responsible for two to three percent of carbon dioxide emissions.
Sounds like this matter is not such a big deal in the scheme of things.

Really, who cares what you earn for yourself and deserve some comfort… but if you call for climate change awareness while flying around by private jets then that seems like a hypocrite to me.

Very simple - there is a lime lag - temperatures follow green house gas concentrations. That's the main point - all the GHG s we've been selfishly pumping into the atmosphere has already locked in temperature rises we are going to have to endure (if possible).
At that's the scary part - Co2 concentrations equal to todays have, in the past, led to run-away climate change and hothouse earth mass extinctions.

The Senate on Sunday afternoon passed Democrats' $750 billion health care, tax, and climate bill, in a significant victory for President Joe. Roll on Nov. $
