Well, nobody was born a murderer, and society usually fails them way before they become one... Of course a movie humanising such people will attract controversy, the same the movie about Hitler (containing scenes of him showing kindness towards a secretary) did.

I think there‘s nothing wrong in showing the shaping of a character who turned bad - on how he turned bad. There are two issues here - it’s about guns, and the killer is white. The left is always deriding white males and it is afraid this will influence some whites males into copying these atrocities. Note: mass killers in the US are usually marginalized, lonely young white men who grew up feeling rejected.

I am looking forward to seeing this movie. It looks brilliant.

The critics who worry this movie could incite violence could better use their time by addressing the many real social and psychological issues in modern society that create the sorts of people who would be triggered to act by a film like this.

According to the original Greek meaning of the word, he is indeed a hero, as the term had no differentiation between bad and good. Greek heroes did bad and good things. I have not seen the movie, but I bet that according to the Joker himself, he IS the hero. And if you identify with him, he will be YOUR hero.

If real life events seem worse than any movie depiction, it is because they are...

I actually respect the measured response of the Aurora families here; they are not calling for outrageous over reaction.

@ Norman Goodman, great post.
