Burning Bush - do please describe the process of Female Genital Mutilation, and explain how it is the same as an adult transgender person opting for paid surgery?

Are they gonna throw a gender reveal party?

Good for him for living his life. He will always be Kitty Pryde for me though.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has been at the center of a firestorm in recent years over comments deemed insulting to transgender people.

]

Very sad that a prominent and outspoken feminist like JK Rowling has to face so much toxicity from people who despise her feminist views.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

yup.

Elliot Page is brave and beautiful and I applaud his incredible bravery while simultaneously calling out the fascist Donald Trump for his fascism.

It's her life, so she can do what she wants to with it. One thing that seems a little strange, to me anyway, is the "Q" in LGBTQ, which means queer. Queer by definition means strange or abnormal, doesn't it? Shouldn't they find another definition and letter different from queer that doesn't mean strange or abnormal? This has always seemed queer to me.

What is sad is that JK Rowling expressed bigoted views and caused a lot of pain for her LGBTQIA fans.

Being a bigot has consequences, one of which is that people will call you out on your bigotry. The real toxicity is in Rowling's views, which by the way, are decidedly UN-feminist.

To answer your question, the word "queer" has been reclaimed and redefined. Now it encompasses an intersection of identities. In other words, it is used in the way "gay" was used in the past.

You can easily google this if you would like to have a better understanding of all the terms used by the LGBTQIA community.

Which has seriously baffled me.

What is sad is that JK Rowling expressed bigoted views and caused a lot of pain for her LGBTQIA fans

How so? She spoke the truth, now at the same time had she said something mean or derogatory out of pure spite and hate that would be wrong, but other than that I think Rowling is correct.

How so? She spoke the truth, now at the same time had she said something mean or derogatory out of pure spite and hate that would be wrong, but other than that I think Rowling is correct.

You are confusing "truth" with "opinion", which is an ongoing problem on social media, as people seem to think their opinions are fact and then get upset when others criticize them and take apart their opinions. Apparently free speech means no one gets to disagree with your personal opinion.

As for the truth of the matter, the truth is that JK Rowling opined that transwomen are not women, and that upset her trans fans as well as trans allies. Regardless of what defines a woman, the fact is that it is at the height of rudeness and cruelty to use your platform as a famous person to broadcast an opinion that actively harms people.

Would you walk up to a transperson and say to their face, "you are not a real woman/man"? I doubt it, because we all share cultural and social mores that say such an action would be overtly aggressive and unforgivably rude. Even if you might THINK such a thing, you would NEVER say it - and that is how it should be. What did our mothers teach us? If you can't say anything nice, then STFU. Better yet, MYOB and STFU.

JK Rowling can believe anything she likes. For all I care, she can believe the moon is made of green cheese and Elvis and JFK are alive and are secretly fighting vampires together. But considering her wide reach, what she says, out loud, to her wide audience, does concern me - because I am of the opinion that if you would not say such a thing to someone's face, you also should not say it online.

In fact, it's worse to say it online, because many more transpeople will be reading it. And letting people know that you think they are less deserving of human rights than other people is a step over the line. That's why she got such blowback, and that's why I am of the opinion that she is a truly vile human being.

@girl_in_tokyo

Yeah, that's true. Words do change or take on new meanings over time, however, gay still means happy in one sense but queer still means strange in another sense, doesn't it?

You are confusing "truth" with "opinion", which is an ongoing problem on social media, as people seem to think their opinions are fact and then get upset when others criticize them and take apart their opinions. Apparently free speech means no one gets to disagree with your personal opinion.

I appreciates everyone’s opinions, but when it comes to facts, I think Rowling is correct.

As for the truth of the matter, the truth is that JK Rowling opined that transwomen are not women,

She’s right.

and that upset her trans fans as well as trans allies. Regardless of what defines a woman, the fact is that it is at the height of rudeness and cruelty to use your platform as a famous person to broadcast an opinion that actively harms people.

I disagree, she’s equally entitled to her opinion even if people disagree, I don’t think any human should be ridiculed, mocked or laughed at, but you really have only two sexes, sure you have every and then a person that is born a hermaphrodite, but beyond that you only have two sexes which were designed to procreate, we all have to right to feel what we want, how we like, but as to what we anatomically and biologically are, you are born a man or a woman. If you’re a man but feel like a woman it doesn’t mean you can shower with women of the same sex, that is stepping over the line for the vast majority of people.

Would you walk up to a transperson and say to their face, "you are not a real woman/man"? I doubt it,

I have a daughter and if her school allowed a transgender person to change clothes and shower with her in the same room with other women, I would indeed say something.

JK Rowling can believe anything she likes. For all I care, she can believe the moon is made of green cheese and Elvis and JFK are alive

As well as Transgender people can believe they are one sex or the other, it doesn’t mean that they are. If you do an autopsy, the pathologist wouldn’t look at the organs and say, this person that died was a “biological Transgender”, it doesn’t exist.

I am of the opinion that if you would not say such a thing to someone's face, you also should not say it online.

I’m different, I’m a very direct person.

In fact, it's worse to say it online, because many more transpeople will be reading it. And letting people know that you think they are less deserving of human rights

Absolutely not, I am not that kind of person, I would never stand by and allow anyone including a Transgender person to be attacked or harassed, now having said that, I think we can have a discussion about this without getting hostile or emotional, if someone doesn’t believe in a person being gender fluid that is also their right because if the world were full of Transgenders the population would die out, they couldn’t procreate, only a “man and a woman” can even if you use a surrogate the sperm comes from a man and has to fertilize an egg which is from the woman.

than other people is a step over the line. That's why she got such blowback, and that's why I am of the opinion that she is a truly vile human being.

Well, I applaud her for taking a stand and I think she’s not wrong. We are all human and we all should be treated with respect but there are boundaries physically and sexually and there are situations where you can believe in your heart to be something, but you are physically not.

I appreciates everyone’s opinions, but when it comes to facts, I think Rowling is correct.

No, Rowling has an opinion based on her own personal view of what defines a woman. If you want fact, then you look at what experts in biology and psychology say, not authors of children's books.

I disagree, she’s equally entitled to her opinion even if people disagree, I don’t think any human should be ridiculed, mocked or laughed at,

No one has said she is not entitled to her opinion. What is happening is she is being condemned for her opinion, which is what happens when you voice an opinion that is objectively cruel and that actively causes harm to people.

Rowling actively chose to make her personal opinion known to transpeople - she has zero right to now complain that the people she was cruel to have responded with mockery, particulary when she mocked them first by denying their stated identity.

but you really have only two sexes, sure you have every and then a person that is born a hermaphrodite, but beyond that you only have two sexes

This is simply wrong, and since it is quite easy to find information on this subject by googling it, I'm not going to trouble myself with explaining why. If you want to understand how sex is determined, then you can look that up by yourself. I can tell that you aren't very well informed on the subject since you aren't even using the correct terminology - it's "intersex", not "hermaphrodite",

which were designed to procreate

This is opinion.

all have to right to feel what we want, how we like, but as to what we anatomically and biologically are, you are born a man or a woman.

Again, this is not accurate and you need to look up the difference between gender and sex.

I have a daughter and if her school allowed a transgender person to change clothes and shower with her in the same room with other women, I would indeed say something.

Everyone is comfortable with what they are comfortable with, and if your daughter is not comfortable showing with another woman, then I would fully respect that. Personally, I don't like to shower in groups, either. I think that is pretty common.

As well as Transgender people can believe they are one sex or the other, it doesn’t mean that they are. If you do an autopsy, the pathologist wouldn’t look at the organs and say, this person that died was a “biological Transgender”, it doesn’t exist.

This is factually incorrect. But these days a lot of people are anti-science, so it would not surprise me if you think your personal uniformed opinion trumps that of experts in the field of psychology who research gender dysphoria.

I’m different, I’m a very direct person.

Are you saying you are rude enough to insult and denigrate someone to their face? I really don't know what to say about that.

Absolutely not, I am not that kind of person, I would never stand by and allow anyone including a Transgender person to be attacked or harassed,

What you don't seem to quite grasp is that denying a transperson's stated identity is attacking them. Also, continually denying a transperson's identity after you have been told it is hurtful, harmful, and denigrating to them as a human being, that is harassment.

now having said that, I think we can have a discussion about this without getting hostile or emotional, if someone doesn’t believe in a person being gender fluid that is also their right because if the world were full of Transgenders the population would die out, they couldn’t procreate, only a “man and a woman” can even if you use a surrogate the sperm comes from a man and has to fertilize an egg which is from the woman.

You can believe in Santa Claus, if you want. You can believe the world is flat. You can believe the moon landing was a hoax. You can believe Trump actually won the election. You can believe as many wrong things as you like; but what you can't do is expect other people to treat those beliefs as if they are deserving of consideration. They aren't.

Well, I applaud her for taking a stand and I think she’s not wrong. We are all human and we all should be treated with respect but there are boundaries physically and sexually and there are situations where you can believe in your heart to be something, but you are physically not.

She is factually wrong, as are you. But again, the only way for you to understand that is to trust expert opinion on the topic, which I think is very unlikely.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

No, Rowling has an opinion based on her own personal view of what defines a woman.

You only have two sexes, ask any pathologist, if they found a skeleton 300 years in the future DNA samples would come back as either a man or a woman, not transgender.

Rowling actively chose to make her personal opinion known to transpeople - she has zero right to now complain that the people she was cruel to have responded with mockery, particulary when she mocked them first by denying their stated identity.

She has just as much of a right to voice her opinion as you do criticizing her, no one will stop her, nor should they and you have your opinion as well, we all do, but when it comes to biology we can’t change or DNA makeup even if we can physically change our face or organs.

This is factually incorrect. But these days a lot of people are anti-science,

No, just ask any physician or geneticist.

Are you saying you are rude enough to insult and denigrate someone to their face? I really don't know what to say about that.

Again, if my school told us they would allow Transgender men to facilitate the same changing rooms with girls or my child, I would indeed say something to the faculty in charge.

What you don't seem to quite grasp is that denying a transperson's stated identity is attacking them. Also, continually denying a transperson's identity after you have been told it is hurtful, harmful, and denigrating to them as a human being, that is harassment.

No, they can be whomever they like, but you can’t claim to be a woman when you are anatomically a man and think you can share a shower with women or even compete with women, your body structure, heart, lungs are bigger, your muscle structure is more dense, you would always have a bigger advantage overall.

but what you can't do is expect other people to treat those beliefs as if they are deserving of consideration. They aren't.

I disagree, I don’t think any man or transgender has a right to impose on young developing adolescent girls claiming to be something that they’re not, the majority of parents that have daughters wouldn’t allow it, most girls wouldn’t want or feel comfortable with it, doesn’t you hate or have any animosity towards Transgender people, you want to make sure you keep the boundaries to a limit.

She is factually wrong, as are you

I completely disagree.

Sex and gender aren't always the same

You are born either a man or a woman, whichever sex you personally choose is irrelevant from what you were born as.

It's not irrelevant to many tens of million whose sex and gender are different. People don't just decide they want to be a transgender. People are born has a transgender. Nature isn't some perfect event. There are laws in many countries which recognise transgenders and protections.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It's not irrelevant to many tens of million whose sex and gender are different.

But it’s relative to millions who to make that clear distinction

People don't just decide they want to be a transgender.

this is not about people deciding if they want to be transgender or not, people can be anything they want, in my household I think I am king and my wife disagrees with me, but that’s in my world here, but it doesn’t change the fact of who we are and you have to sexes you don’t have a transgender monkeys or you don’t have transgender lizards or transgender birds, you need a male and a female to procreate, this has nothing to do with discriminating, and I really get so annoyed when liberals start thinking just because you disagree with what you biologically are that you are somehow a big it or racist and that’s not what anyone is implying.

People are born has a transgender.

No, when you are born, you biologically a meal or a female and once again if you do an autopsy on someone that has been deceased you see clear and distinct differences if you exhume the bones of someone you can’t tell 2000 years ago by some of the ancient Roman skeleton if one of them were transgender or not.

Nature isn't some perfect event.

Of course not.

There are laws in many countries which recognise transgenders and protections

Uh-huh, but I still would not feel comfortable if my daughter were in a changing room with a transgender, I just would not allow that.

People don't just decide they want to be a transgender.

you don’t have a transgender monkeys or you don’t have transgender lizards or transgender birds,

You know that because of what? Comparing humans to monkeys and lizards is very base. Are other animals also GAY?

you need a male and a female to procreate,

So you are equally dismissive of GAY people too?

People are born has a transgender.

No, when you are born, you biologically a meal or a female and once again if you do an autopsy on someone that has been deceased you see clear and distinct differences if you exhume the bones of someone you can’t tell 2000 years ago by some of the ancient Roman skeleton if one of them were transgender or not.

You seem to have no understanding of the difference between sex and gender and they are not always the same for all people. Plenty of scientific studies.

Have you ever met or even spoken with a transgender?

Uh-huh, but I still would not feel comfortable if my daughter were in a changing room with a transgender, I just would not allow that.

I understand the point but that isn't a cause to dismiss the reality of being transgender.

you need a male and a female to procreate

There are tens of millions of couples male-female who are unable to procreate and produce children. They can still enjoy a full loving relationship and adopt children they desire to have.

There are transgender couple who also give birth to their children. But dad has the baby.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You know that because of what? Comparing humans to monkeys and lizards is very base. Are other animals also GAY?

They’re not, but if they were the species would die out.

So you are equally dismissive of GAY people too?

You need a female and a male to procreate, right? Please just answer the simple question.

You seem to have no understanding of the difference between sex and gender

No, I don’t, I was very alert in my biology class.

Have you ever met or even spoken with a transgender?

I’m from California is that a serious rhetorical question?

I understand the point but that isn't a cause to dismiss the reality of being transgender

I never did.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There are tens of millions of couples male-female who are unable to procreate and produce children.

That was NOT what I asked, it’s not that difficult to answer, seriously, now naturally and biologically, only men and women can procreate, right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You are born either a man or a woman

Or intersex. But you binary thinkers are not very good at understanding anything outside of 'black' or 'white', with your color blindness to 'grey'.

whichever sex you personally choose is irrelevant from what you were born as.

To you maybe. But society clearly feels different. It's why you guys Lost the election, it's because the opinions of a Loser are Loser opinions, and the people didn't want your Loser opinions anymore.

Uh-huh, but I still would not feel comfortable if my daughter were in a changing room with a transgender, I just would not allow that.

Heh, it's pretty much guaranteed to have already happened without you even realizing it. Sleep well with that thought tonight...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You are born either a man or a woman

People whose characteristics are not either all typically male or all typically female at birth are intersex. Some intersex traits are not always visible at birth; some babies may be born with ambiguous genitals, while others may have ambiguous internal organs (testes and ovaries).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Or intersex. But you binary thinkers are not very good at understanding anything outside of 'black' or 'white', with your color blindness to 'grey'.

When it comes to biology, we understand 1+1=2, the sun goes up, the sun goes down, the tide rolls in, the tide rolls out, it’s very clear.

To you maybe.

Not to me, you’re either born with a male appendage or a female one.

But society clearly feels different.

Depends on what society we are are talking about, again, this is not how you feel or orient yourself based on gender, we are talking about biology and no matter how you twist it, only men and women can procreate, that’s an irrefutable fact.

It's why you guys Lost the election,

Well, more of a PC software to be more precise, but that’s irrelevant now....

Heh, it's pretty much guaranteed to have already happened

No, it hasn’t actually.

*People whose characteristics are not either all typically male or all typically female at birth are intersex. Some intersex traits are not always visible at birth; some babies may be born with ambiguous genitals, while others may have ambiguous internal organs (testes and ovaries).*

Ok, but that wasn’t my point and you never answered the question, so let’s try one more time gays can’t procreate and neither can transgenders, so that means naturally and biologically who can procreate? And I’m not talking about the very few incidents of people born with ambiguous genitalia, stick with 99% majority on how life is created.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes procreation is achieved by female and male but not all females have the female gender and not all males have the male gender. You can't just dismiss those gender people because they may have problems with procreation. Not all heterosexuals can procreate either. Nature isn't some 100% black and white. We know unfortunately that nature can be very imperfect with people born with serious imperfections.

No, I don’t, I was very alert in my biology class.

I seriously doubt when you were in your California school years ago, that transgenders were even discussed. I also seriously doubt you have even spoken with any transgender, even though you claimed to have live in California.

I still think you fail to separate or distinguish sex and gender.

A study found that 97.4% of men identified as heterosexual, 1.6% as homosexual and 0.9% as bisexual. For women 97.7% identified as heterosexual, 0.8% as lesbian and 1.4% as bisexual.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes procreation is achieved by female and male

Thank you.

I seriously doubt when you were in your California school years ago,

That’s your opinion, you’re entitled to it.

I still think you fail to separate or distinguish sex and gender.

Again, you can believe what you like, no harm in that.

Uh-huh, but I still would not feel comfortable if my daughter were in a changing room with a transgender, I just would not allow that.

There are no transgenders in Japanese schools, so your worry about your daughters is unfounded.

What is the difference between sex and gender? Can you now answer that?

Gender dysphoria is the feeling of discomfort or distress that might occur in people whose gender identity differs from their sex assigned at birth or sex-related physical characteristics. Transgender and gender-nonconforming people might experience gender dysphoria at some point in their lives.

Here in Japan, a new law also allows people diagnosed with gender dysphoria and who have undergone irreversible sterilization to legally change their sex at the age of 18. The changes are scheduled to take effect on 1 April 2022.

Even in Californian schools the teaching of sexuality based on gays and transgender,LGBTQ was very restrictive until 2019.
