RIP Mr Dow. MSM earlier today announced his passing prematurely resulting in terrible distress for his wife. I hope JT has checked all sources.

A friend in Los Angeles talked to his wife, who said he is actually alive in hospice care at home, and she was so distressed by calls asking to confirm his death that she gave the wrong answer.

1950’s tv was… meh. The Lucy shows were kind of funny because of the rampant smoking but they still had to sleep in separate beds but still were a cultural icon. Leave it to Beaver was, again, meh. The Flintstones were the first series to depict a married couple sleeping in the same bed together.

Apparently fake news:

UPDATE: Just hours after announcing the death of Tony Dow on Tuesday, the Leave It to Beaver actor’s management has retracted its statement.

Dow, whose career in television as an actor, director and producer spanned seven decades, died on Tuesday morning, according to a statement posted to Facebook.

Or maybe he did not die yet:

*Tony Dow, who delighted audiences as big brother Wally Cleaver on the 1950s and '60s sitcom “Leave It to Beaver,” is still alive in hospice care, despite his own management team posting on social media Tuesday that he had died.*

Nope, he's still alive.

"Leave It To Beaver" was a great show. Back before garbage proliferated on TV. But my favorite character was Eddie Haskel, Wally's troublemaker pal.

You are so right, great show when people and society were still considered normal and kinder.

Left unsaid, “Everyone was white, Christian and all families were headed by men and women knew their place.”

That’s what it meant.

I only saw the reruns, back in the 80s. One of my favourites.

Dead or alive never heard of him..

No, I was talking about “everyone” not just make believe TV land back in the old days.

That’s what I meant.

Ward wore suits and his wife wore dresses at home. Plot for kids: let’s go crush some tin cans; let’s check out the skunk that got into so and so’s garage. Wally was bland. Eddie the sidekick. Beaver annoying. Narrated opening.

Eddie Haskel, Wally's troublemaker pal.

Troublemaker? Two-faced varmint more like it as in “You look lovely today, Mrs. Cleaver. (Where’d you mom get that awful dress dress, Wally?)”

Seems like he’s dead now….

RIP Tony. He did a lot of dinner theater in KC. A really nice guy.

What are you talking about? Anyway, the man did a lot of other TV shows and was just a funny guy especially back on the classic “Leave it to beaver” show.

He’ll definitely be missed. Rest In Peace Mr. Dow, classy until the end.

Eddie, the character, has the highest EQ. The way he deftly came up with the solution in the episode "Eddie's Girl" while considering more than five people's situation showed his faculty.

Loved this show as a kid. Used to be my favorite. Wished I was a part of that family. It summed up the ethos of the 50s.

"Starring Hugh Beaumont, Barbara Billingsley, Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers as the Beaver."

What are you talking about?

Um, He did a lot of dinner theater in KC as an adult. If you read any of his widely available Obits, it is one of the places where his mid-80s revival started. And......

He was a really nice guy. As stated in the Obits.

Are you having trouble with basic English or just being a silly B again?

All of you "never heard of him" posters are giving away your age brackets. Unless you didn't watch American TV. And yea, a fact check would be nice. It must be terrible to have the media all over you if he is still alive.

Unless you didn't watch American TV.

Oh, the horror!

Yoy know most people don’t watch American TV?

lol

Um, He did a lot of dinner theater in KC as an adult.

yes, one of the many things he did as an actor

Are you having trouble with basic English or just being a silly B again?

Not me, definitely not me.

Yoy know most people don’t watch American TV?

If that were true, then Hollywood and the American actors many actors from foreign countries I go to Hollywood wouldn’t be as filthy Rich as they are.

Even when I visit and stay in America I never watch TV. The ads and breaks are just too much.

Someone has to pay for it and no one likes it, no one, this is a reason why people are switched to streaming.

I'm too young to have watched the original Leave it to Beaver during its initial run, but as a kid in the 1980s I do have fond memories of watching him in the re-boot "New" Leave it to Beaver, and also watching re-runs of the original. They were nice shows and I'm sad to hear of his passing.

Seen the reruns on TB. Milquetoast and meh. Unreal Americana, WASP-ish. The Flintstones are cool.

Unrealistic pap. Problem is, TV is even worse than ever.

Unfunny and uncreative ads with talking heads. I'll take the rock band Talking Heads over those 'heads' anyday.

Was also very good friends of Epstein/maxwell. Was involved with “save the ocean” which Maxwell was heavily involved. Even spend holidays on Pedo Inland.

Dead or alive never heard of him..

and he's never heard of you either

Never got into his show but knew of him. RIP.

This is certainly a very niche subject.

Maybe only for 70/80 year old Americans. The rest of the world has never heard of him.

Younger ones as well through reruns and of course older ones do, but this was an American themed show made for American audiences, so it’s not unusual that the rest of the world hasn’t watched the show.

American TV is quite popular outside the US. I know Beaver because we were given homework assignments to watch American TV shows. The American teacher would show this and Gidget because they were clean shows when we wanted to watch Friends. The English teacher made us watch Jane Eyre and BBC versions of Jane Austen novels. The Japanese teacher used Tokyo Love Story which was better.
