Regulators in the United Arab Emirates this week announced they were banning the movie for "violation of the country's media content standards," tweeting a picture of titular hero Buzz Lightyear in a red "No" symbol.

For an all powerful God he seems a little insecure.

Again, if your religion can’t handle diversity, or education for females, or a cartoon maybe your religion is too weak to handle modern life.

11 ( +32 / -21 )

To be fair, what can you show in most of those countries ?

6 ( +16 / -10 )

It is interesting that the religious right has taken to using the word grooming to smear portrayals of equality yet the worse child abuse has historically been committed at religious institutions.

Oh no!! Two people kissing!! How will I ever recover from seeing that!! - person in the 1800s.

How is this still even an issue in 2022? The kids tv shows my kids were watching 5 years ago had same sex couples. My office has same sex couples. Life has same sex couples.

Weird to be so oversensitive.

Not for my kids.

It's a kids' movie. They had to go there.

Women fall in love with women. Who knew!?!

The movie should not be banned. Parents should decide if their children watch it. Of course, if parents decide against it they will likely be called bigots.

I applaud this movie if for no other reason than it antagonizes the bigots. Buzz Lightyear foreve... er... to inifinity and beyond!

Walk into any book store, go to the manga section. What do you see? 100’s of boys love and gay stories, depicting male cartoons kissing and doing more. Why would anyone think Japan would ban this? Boys love is so popular here, even if it is Buzz Lightyear haha.

Not in the bookstores I frequent.

You trying to tell us something?

1 ( +9 / -8 )

The question is, do they show women and men kissing in kids shows? I'm pretty sure they do. So how is a same-sex kiss sexual, if an opposite sex kiss isn't? I wonder how many of the bigots will recognize their bigotry from their answer to that question.

So if the intent of the kiss is not to bring a new life into the world, but only for pleasure, than it is (considered) wrong.

Sleeping Beauty had kissing in it, kind of central to the story. Disney have been putting sexual content in films for decades /s

Great news!

I hope they ban it in Japan too.

Boy love is popular for fujoshi, not the mainstream audience.

what a crap "culture"

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

I think someone doesn’t know what “grooming” actually is.

has taken to using the word grooming to smear portrayals of equality

it’s not THAT.

The scene was already the subject of controversy in the United States, where it had originally been cut from the final film.

More religious extremism.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Getting banned in the Middle East or china feels like a dice roll for every movie or piece of media. Ultimately these companies know what and just let it rock at best, or cut it for appeasement sake.(aka money) in bigger releases

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

why not.

good move.

will Japan do same?

Nobody expected them to, these countries usually ban most things. Again which is their right. Ban what you like. Disney doesn’t care clearly. Take note from Russia and make your own Disney lmao.

How progressive.

-4 ( +13 / -17 )

Only 14?! I hope Japan does too, though I doubt it.

-4 ( +12 / -16 )

Lamilly.... Not half the population! Or 61% in Pakistan!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

If Disney wanna go woke - the expect to go broke

-5 ( +29 / -34 )

Temyong...

Nice!

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

Maybe in the next movie they should have Buzz Lightyear marry a 9 year old or just get hitched to his first cousin? Shouldn't be a problem.

-7 ( +9 / -16 )

Well, Muslim countries setting the example for "Christian" western countries..

This is why people worldwide love anime and manga, not american comics and cartoons.

Long live anime and manga, the greatest modern culture/art!

Well said..

Comics and cartoons suck..

Seriously? Are you really asking this question or is it rhetorical?

Well in the event you are actually serious, my advice is to leave the house, stop watching only the news or social media you like the outcome of the content and start looking at the rest of the world, there are over 190 countries, over 7 billion people and at least a third if not more live in countries where being gay is a crime including punishable by death!

If only 14 countries have banned it then it isn't being shown in many countries.

Nearly all of the countries in Africa being gay is illegal so I highly doubt the movie is being shown in those countries.

In total as far as I know 71 countries it is illegal to be gay/LGBTQ another 40 or so it isn't illegal but public display is!

So I highly doubt only 14 countries have banned the movie these are only the 14 someone wants to make an issue about it.

-8 ( +7 / -15 )

It's not like it was two men kissing.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Nearly all of Africa LGBTQ is illegal.

71 countries being gay is a crime.

So I will bet the movie is banned in all of them so why were only Middle East and Asian countries singled out? or should I say Muslim countries!?
