The beginning of the second movie of the series (from 1981) only gives hints of a great mayhem (but after what? Nuclear war? Massive chem war? Economic collapse? Unanswered.) and all of a sudden you have roving gangs in jury-rigged war machines battling over refineries, settlements, etc. out in the Aussie outback (beyond, maybe?). Just like that. It's science fiction.
And yet during the same time in reality, Lebanon was divided up in nearly 40-odd 'fiefdom' zones battling each other for turf and such, before Israel stepped in bigtime in 1982. And I remember the fall of the dictator of Somalia, then the victors turned on each other. Private armies formed by placing weapondry on truck beds and such and the anarchic wars continue there to this day, resulting in piracy which is a royal pain in the butt to any vessel that comes their way.

Agreed. The ‘world of Mad Max’ exists within itself. It’s escapism from this one.
Therefore, the director and the actors are wished a continued success IF they can deliver again without any “unnecessary cross cultural politics”. Keep that current batch of ‘producer-destoyers’ that force their ‘agenda’ away from it. It doesn’t need any ‘help’ from us. We have our own crap to deal with.

“*No, there's No 'wokeness' at all in ”Thunderdome” - @starpunk Apr. 21 11:50pm - “She was a power-hungry, corrupt and rotten character in that film but she was a strong female character to be dealt with!*”
“Mad Max movies are set in Australia, Tina is a Black American and the 'funny' question is “how did a Black American wind up in the land Down Under when all the anarchic mayhem occured?” There's so many 'little factors' that don't get explained in those films, But do they really matter?” -
“*Tina Turner was excellent in 'Thunderdome', without a doubt. And I love that film to this day, and her songs for the film are terrific too. She shines in every way there. And yes, she did most of those stunts herself as well. In 1985, that was really saying and telling something right there. And, she did it all ‘Herself’.” Not woke*. Culture.” -snowymountainhell
Read your ‘Awesome’ post @Starpunk 11:50pm with morning coffee. Agreed to your great points and “greater questions”. Some are better off “unanswered” about the “Mad Max” world. Speculation is part of the experience and “engagement with” the auteurs. And, George Miller delivered a considerable number of experiences!

And she was excellent in 'Thunderdome', without a doubt. I was only implying that Mad Max movies are set in Australia and Tina is a Black American and the 'funny' question is 'how did a Black American wind up in the land Down Under when all the anarchic mayhem occured? Auntie Entity mentioned that she worked as a clerk before (where?) and now she was the mayor/governess/dictator of Bartertown. How did she get to that status down there of all places? There's so many 'little factors' that don't get explained in those films, there's vagueness. But do they really matter? And of course there's the unanswered question of who fathered that children group's girl leader's baby?
No, there's no 'wokeness' at all in 'Thunderdome' and I love that film to this day, and her songs for the film are terrific too. She shines in every way there. She was a powerhungry corrupt and rotten character in that film but she was a strong female character to be dealt with! And yes she did most of those stunts herself as well. And in 1985, that was really saying and telling something right there. And she did it all herself.
And of course there were some cultural name dropping 'hints' as well like the Atomic Cafe, Master-Blaster (referring to a Stevie Wonder tribute to Bob Marley) and more. Not woke. Culture.

Anya Taylor-Joy is a special screen presence. She is now a major star with Furiosa. The Queen's Gambit was her Golden Globe breakout, and she's been excellent in films like Thoroughbreds. Good for her, she's a wonderful actress.
Chris Hemsworth is a major star. I look forward to the film, it should be fun and in the hands of George Miller, another great look.

I hope it’s a lot better than the the last failure of a remake.
Mad Max Fury rd grossed over 360 million world wide, scored constantly over 80% with both cinema goers and critics

That film wasn’t ‘woke’ @starpunk 11:23pm. Tina Turner and THAT character definitely ‘earned’ their Power. It wasn’t just handed to them like it is in many themes of “Entertainment” today.
Tina Turner turned down the prime role of ‘Celie’ in Spielberg’s “The Color Purple” claiming it was “too depressing”. She choose to play the self-made ‘Auntie Entity’ in “Beyond Thunderdome”. She dominated the men around her to do the dirty work and built Barter Town. Yet, when it came down to it, she ‘took the wheel’ of one of the open-air vehicles out into the Wasteland. She did most of her own stunts in a 70lb chain mail dress! She was a perfectly balanced anti-hero to Mad Max’s anti-hero.
In that movie and her own life, Tina Turner created her own power and profits, rather than demand it by playing the victim. Not woke at all.

Having Tna Turner is a post-apocolyptic Australia was 'woke' enough back in 1985 and I loved that film, just like I did the other two.
Yes it is.
The heifer is too damn old to give milk now! Her udder is shot. Then there's the unrealistic pointless 'Top Gun 2' they keep harping about. Most of our generation has moved on, I think.
And don't get me started about those gadawful Marvel and DC comic films of lately.

Look, it's all fun and that's it. Road Fury was good and that escapism helps, it's good for the body and soul even if it's just for two hours. Doesn't need to be a masterpiece, just some action-packed something.
Since Seagal's movies always go straight to DVD (wonder why) he should do well....now if he can only get people to watch his movies. LOL
Bob Fosse
I heard Seagal is working on 57 new movies. You’ll be spoilt for choice Nostradamus.

Why not do the backstory on the Feral Kid? Whats wrong with these people?
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
This will be woke AF, so no thx.

Mad Max is coming home to Australia where it all started. Very fitting and appropriate. Good luck to all involved.

"The Toecutter - he knows who I am. I am the Nightrider! I am the chosen one. The mighty hand of vengeance, sent down to strike the unroadworthy! I'm hotter than a rollin' dice. Step right up, chum, and watch the kid lay down a rubber road, right to FREEDOM!".

Creative moviemakers at their best. Milk the cow until it dies.
egads man!
So "Furiosa" is supposed to be a "Fury Road" prequel but having Max and Furiosa? I guess the story will just follow the 2 character story lines independent of each other since they don't actually meet until "Fury Road".

Like “Fury Road” , “Nambia” reported here is just as fictional as “Narnia”. It was a misnamed “covfeve” or, “fake news” created by a former U.S. president in 2017. From the AP article above:

How do you recreate the grittiness in the 1979 original? The filming of those car chases was something special
Alfie Noakes
Fury Road was great fun, hopefully this will be too.
That's Namibia. Or maybe Narnia.
moonwatcher
No Tom Hardy? Lame.
snowymountainhell
Looks like “Mad Max” will grow 15cm (from 5’9” to 6’3”) from one movie to the next.. (No mention here if Tom Hardy is coming back to reprise his role from ‘Fury Road’.) Charlize Theron was decent as “Furiosa’ and said she’d like to return. “The VVitch” actress may be a good replacement.
