Good for Justin Bieber. I'm no fan of his music but it's great to see a celebrity young guy trying to live a wholesome life and be a good example to his young fans.

Start by investing in a time travel machine.

2000 years man.

His stated desire is 'to be more patient and selfless'. It would change the world in a positive way if we all could do that.

Less conflict and war, more stable and lasting marriages, more effective parenting of children, smoother workplace relations, deeper friendships, etc. Sounds great to me. I hope he succeeds.

Wow! 6 thumbs down and counting. It’s just an MSM piece but the guy is posting some nice message.

so many evil people out there.

I am a little curious as to why the all the thumbs down. It seems we ought to be happy that a celebrity is trying to live a wholesome life rather than a life of the usual celebrity excesses ending in suicide, alcoholism, etc.

He has the resources to do a lot of good.

What a tool...

He has the resources to do a lot of good.

Yes, he could give all his money to the poor like Jesus instructed.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

It would be great if he gave all his money to the poor. However that particular instruction by Jesus was given to one individual guy, not necessarily a command for all people.

Apparently he does donate to a long list of charities. It's a longer list than mine so I have to respect him for that.

Of course it was. The more problematic teachings are explained away like that while the ones you agree with are universalized.

Would it be great if you gave everything you had to the poor? It would make posting here problematic.

Jimizo:

I think the main point here is that while Justin Bieber hasn't given his all to the poor, he does seem to be trying the best he can in spite of the fact it would be easy for him to spiral out of control like many of the young rich and famous. And trying the best we can is all we can ask of anyone. I think we can agree on that.

Warren Buffett has donated over $21 billion during his lifetime, when he dies we has promised to donate 85% of his current $60+billion wealth to various charities.

Just who are these “poor” people Jimizo is talking about? The ones on government assistance and cable TV, or those poor people in any countless African nation?

I’d go with those in extreme poverty who don’t have the basics like clean drinking water.

Jesus said give everything.

Remember the camel and the eye of the needle?

I'm curious to know why Justin Bieber trying to be more patient and selfless (like Jesus) bothers you so much. Any reason?

"The Canadian pop singer, 24, who married model Hailey Baldwin"

She is quite attractive.

He has given away 21 billion, leaving him with a mere 40 billion to get by on. Not impressed. Especially by a guy as ruthless as he is (he made several of those billions off tobacco, which he said he loved because people became addicted to it.) It's much more impressive to see someone donating $20 who has to worry about paying the bills each month.

Justin Bieber was a talented young man when he appeared on his first YouTube video. However, the skill set of a young boy won’t get you through a lifetime. If he wants to follow after Jesus, maybe he should donate all his money to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity and look for work as a carpenter?

Jimizo:

I get that some religious people can be hypocritical (as anyone can be including you and me) but why are you criticizing Justin Bieber for merely saying that he's trying to be a better person? I don't think that's very fair. Come on man, give the guy a break.

Serrano:

Just googled "Hailey Baldwin" and also found pix of Justin's mom. They actually look pretty similar...even age-wise. To each his own...as long as its legal in ones home country.

According to Pew Research Center 84% of the world's population is religious.

You gonna look them all in the eye and tell them that they are all 'hypoctrites', 'inspiring hatred', and 'are a very sorry and shallow person'? That's painting Justin Bieber and the rest of them, including many JT readers I would imagine, with a pretty broad brush don't you think?

Have a little sympathy for poor Canadian Justin. He is not well. Healthy and normal people don't suddenly want to become like a religious figure. He is taking drugs or having some kind of crisis.

He really needs to work on a soap opera. It would be perfect for him and keep him busy and productive.

It cant be easy becoming famous at a very young age and accumulating a fortune. He can buy anything he wants, but what will he do with his life? Britany Spears had a lot of trouble, but seems to be doing well now. She does lots of shows. Justin needs a new challenge.

This is a good example of what pot can do to some people. Some people can use it and are fine and others use it and it is very destructive.

It will in his case. Unless he manages to lose it all, which is quite possible for someone so young and so suddenly rich.

And still is. I'm not into him, but I respect his musical abilities a lot.

No, only the hypocrites. Christian monks or nuns who don’t amass material wealth tend to be less hypocritical. These people walk the walk. Those who pick and choose bits they like, name-drop Jesus and sit on piles of cash don’t impress me.

It sounds to me like a vegan who makes an exception for steak.

Jesus said give everything.

He said that to one particular rich person, not as a general prescription. It's often misquoted that way.

Says who? Jesus didn’t make that clear.

Why is this approach always taken with the very difficult teachings?

He also said take no thought for the morrow and it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven.

Were those pronouncements also directed to one particular rich person?

Jimizo:

The Bible is full of people who were followers of Jesus that didn't give all thier money to the poor and He never asked them to. His own 12 closest disciples are recorded as having a bag of money to pay thier expenses. Jesus also had rich supporters.

Nowhere does the Bible give any instruction for ALL Christians to give all thier money to the poor. In multiple places it encourages generosity, sharing, wise investment, providing for your family and in some rare cases giving all to the poor. But even those cases were usually one time events and the people involved didn't remain penniless from there on.

I'm sure that the more people like Justin Bieber who are blessed with a lot of money share it with the needy the happier God is.

I don't think though that God would be dumb enough to ask all His people to go peniless and have nothing left to share anymore. It's better to hang on to some so they can keep investing and accumulating riches and have even more to share. Makes good business sense.

Good business sense? We are talking about your supposedly eternal soul here.

A very American view of the Bible. The prosperity bible. Lord, I’m in the green!

There is no contradiction between amassing huge material wealth despite the fact that Jesus stated that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven? No parables are going to shoot this idea down.

Stunning hypocrisy.
