In the final episode, no sooner than the panelists on "Terrace House" waved the audience goodbye, the next series was announced in a chalk-written message on the communal blackboard.
The Japanese reality show from Netflix and Fuji TV has captured audiences worldwide with its unique insight into the lives of six young people who move in together and pursue their dreams and love interests, along with commentary by a panel of hilarious comedians and celebrities who discuss the show’s developments.
This latest series, "Terrace House: Opening New Doors," was set in the woodsy, ski resort town of Karuizawa. Highlights of the 49 episodes included a heartwarming love story between an ice hockey captain and an aspiring model and welcoming the first openly LGBTQ+ member of the show. It also generated heated debate around questions of consent. But at the end of the 14-month-long series, it was time to say goodbye to Karuizawa and tease the setting for the next series: Tokyo.

My wife has been watching it since the first season when it was on late night TV. Most aren't looking for love, just trying to get in the entertainment industry or promote themselves but try to act like they are looking.

"Terrace House" is nowhere near original western reality shows.
Tried to watch once or twice and despite they try to mix some "haafus" in it can be as boring as you can imagine. No fights, no crazy stuff. Just people with fake smiles chatting on a sofa.

Is it really unique? The Dutch introduced this type of realityshow 'Big brother' a long time ago, this is just a rehash. They say it's unscripted but I don't believe it.

Aye, Endemol is the company behind the original format. As for scripting, let's just say a lot of its success is down to judicious editing.
Normally I try to steer clear of reality TV but I did give the first Netflix series a go and enjoyed it. The people were so much more polite and decorous that their counterparts in other countries. And the Greek chorus of commentators were a hoot.
That's enough guilty pleasures for now!

Just another "hit" product in the West clever japanese tried to import to Japan, with obviously awkward results.
The average japanese doesn't even think about the idea of kissing in public, what makes you think they would do it on tv? With people they barely know?
Japanese people don't feel comfortable talking out their ideas in public with people outside their circle neither expressing their true selves to anyone but their most intimate friends, hence the same boring, deep sleep inducing virtue signalling chats on the sofa, the producers even added the same soft guitar BGM for better results!

I wish Netflix would bring in a system where we can delete shows and movies from our listing. This would be one of the first to go!
