I am forever yearning for a new TOP GUN spoof. A good parody along the line of "Hot Shots!"

A big part of this success is the timing of the release, at a time where people are again going out to live a more normal life thanks to the gradual decrease of the risk from covid, and also important is that people are getting bored of the superhero movies but still want to see an action flick.

TOP GUN was a classic! This new one is even better!

Really enjoyed the new Top Gun!

Tom Cruise is catching the younger Tom Holland, now he has his first opening weekend $100 mill.

Holland has 2 as the lead and 3 as part of an ensemble group.

Better late than never. I am sure the movie is good, but have not seen it yet.

The big part of the success is the success of the original, and the reappearance primarily of Tom Cruise in the sequel. And then the visuals.

Congrats to Tom Cruise, 'Top Gun: Maverick'  is Tom Cruise period, front center, the publicity focuses on the man.

The man brand identity, and image ranks along side John Wayne.

So am I disingenuous suggesting Tom Cruise has spent his entire career making the same movie?

Yes, my friends say I am. They love him to bits.

Still, it couldn't beat the movie "The Roundup" in South Korea. That's how it should be in every other countries, local film dominating the foreign movies like Hollywood.

A film should judged on its own merits not on low self-esteem, nationalistic propaganda.

Great movie but the unknown enemy in the film was a bit strange…

Reminds me of an early criticism of another 'star' (stolen and made famous by a 'wouldbe'): "Vivaldi did not write a thousand concerti, he wrote the same one a thousand times". Which, of course, is only a fraction of the times any of us have heard a fragment of Vivaldi whether we knew it or not... like the one central rule of propaganda: Find a theme and repeat, repeat, repeat...ad infinitum. The 17th Century had Vivaldi and the 21st has Cruise...hmmm...

William, I barely got through half an hour of the TOP GUN.

I enjoyed The Firm, and A Few Good Men..........

Every film main character is written to be centered around Tom Cruise.

Cruise has worked with many seriously gifted actors, all are secondary, their character never really develop flourish if the danger is over shadowing Tom Cruise.

I enjoyed the 1987 film 'The Color of Money' But the main star there was Paul Newman who is truly a legend.

“Maverick” is now among the top pandemic era openings, still led by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” with $260 million, followed by “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” with $187 million and “The Batman” with $134 million.

Notably, “Top Gun: Maverick” is the only non-superhero movie in the bunch. It also attracted a wide swath of age groups to the theater. An estimated 55% of the audience was over 35.

“Superhero movies aren’t for everybody. This movie is for everyone and that’s what sets it apart,"

Wrong. Just like the first TG, this one is for those unknowing and uninitiated with the real Navy, let alone Navy fliers. And those armchair generals miffed about Afghanistan probably got their kicks from the sequel to the film from Eighty-Six.

Looking at what else made it big this weekend it is obvious that Hollywood has not taken the lockdown time to come up with any fresh, original or interesting ideas at all. It's just the same old rinse, repeat, recycled trash.

I'm glad I didn't waste my time or money on this rubbish. Never mind the fact that we are still in a pandemic and the risk of oneself (or giving the virus to others) is still high and dangerous.

Are people really getting bored with those tired garbage 'superhero' movies? It doesn't look like it here. And while seeing an action flick is more than just OK, is it too much for Hollywood to come up with something fresh, original and one that doesn't insult your intelligence?

I guess I'm asking for too much here.
