My cliche-meter/BS detector went on overload when the first installment. Didn't like that rip-off pile of rubbish, ain't going to bother with this one either.

Avatar 2 has the formula as Avatar 1:

1) A very simple story that everybody can understand

2) Lots of advanced graphics

3) Message about the environment.

I know Cameron is a perfectionist, but he waited too long! Both the 2 and 3rd installments were made together because he realized his mistake. Basically, they need to make at least 2 billion to break even. The first Avatar was not that popular for many reasons. The movie studio had to keep Avatar 1 in theaters for so long (longer than most movies at the time) to break even and make a small profit. It will be the same with Avatar 2 and 3.

Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever is the king of 2022! With a 250 million dollar budget, it has already made a profit and will reach a 1 billion dollars by the end of the year. It remains the No. 1 non-local title in several markets including Germany, the UK, Australia, Brazil and Mexico.

All the reviews I’ve read so far say it’s not that good.

… “ the king of 2022 “ is Maverick, from Top Gun(!)

..

gintonicToday  02:24 pm JST Looking forward to seeing it.

Are you sure? It's the highest grossing movie of all time. It took in over $3 billion and everyone saw it. It was an enormous commercial success. Movies don't stay in theaters unless people are watching them.

Possibly, yeah. But it still will make a bucketload of money.

Will wait until is available for free in YouTube.

Don't know why but I'm totally over woke and movies like this is just unconvincing.

I feel like it's just more propaganda despite knowing its totally fictional.

I saw it for free at a DVD showing party in 2019, ten years after the release date. I'm glad I didn't waste my money seeing this rip-off pile of crap. Great computer-generated effects do not a good movie make, the story was tired and full of cliches stolen from every sci-fi film, science fact, turgid new age rubbish and then some. Not one cm of originality or inspiration.

And now it's 13 years for a sequel. More tired trash for a 'new generation' I guess but you might think the original audience would've moved onto something more substantial. Still, you know what PT Barnum said.

Avatar officially remained in theaters for 34 weeks. Now, that includes the theaters that pick up films the second time around, IMAX theaters that specifically kept it around as a flagship project, etc. Avatar amassed $2.029bn in international sales over the 34 week run.

That is a lot longer than the average movie.

No, buddy! Maverick 2 has been around since May!

Black Panther 2 has been in theaters since Nov 11. It has only been a month and they have already reached 800 million. BP2 has already beat Maverick 2 records!

BP1 and BP2 are far better films than TG1 and Maverick and Avatar 1 + 2 put together.

My turn:

Top Gun: Maverick was named the best movie of the year by the National Board of Review; and…

“ The American Film Institute today unveiled their annual list of the best films and television for the calendar year, and in what might - or might not - be a precursor for the major awards season;

Avatar: The Way of Water

Elvis

Everything Everywhere All at Once

The Fabelmans

Nope

She Said

TÁR

Top Gun: Maverick

The Woman King

Women Talking “

..

(where’s BP?)

and…

multiple surveys say that Top Gun: Maverick is the most popular movie of the year, in other words, millions of people said that Top Gun: Maverick is their favorite movie of two thousand and twenty two.

Try again. :)

My turn:

Top Gun: Maverick was named the best movie of the year by the National Board of Review;

LOL! You failed to include this part!

The organization’s honors are voted on by a group of film enthusiasts, professionals, academics, filmmakers and students.

NBR has a mixed record as an Oscars predictor. Last year, its top film was Licorice Pizza, which scored three Oscar nominations, including best picture. In 2020, its top film was Da 5 Bloods, which ended up only landing one Oscar nomination, and in 2019, NBR selected The Irishman, which scored several Oscar nominations but no wins. Previous NBR best film winners include Green Book (2018), The Post (2017), Manchester by the Sea (2016) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).

LOL! How did those movies do at the oscars, again? Let's look at the AFI..................

LOL! Avatar: The Way of Water was not even released when this list was announced, and they already added the movie onto the list . Not only that but AFI has been know to be bias! The major streaming platforms were shut out in favor of theatrical releases.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that Maverick is a really good movie BUT some people wanna keep underestimating Tom Cruise because… he’s Tom Cruise; he’s not perfect but he loves his job and with this movie, he did something really special; “sometimes” (it’s rare, actually), the sequel surpasses the original and TG: Maverick, believe it or not, is being compared to The Godfather: Part II, Aliens, T2 and Blade Runner 2049; don’t get me wrong, I like BP and I’m a fan of the MCU but Top Gun: Maverick is… one hll of a ride(!); Merry Christmas.
