I agree 100%. The dumbing down of society continues

ffs

The thing is, you see, you don't have to watch any movie you don't want to. There are plenty to choose from.

The dumbing down of society continues

A few movies to entertain is hardly dumbing down society.

Shunning higher education over money, now thats where dumbing starts and finishes.

Who wants to think?

I’m not a big film fan but isn’t there a place for entertainment which doesn’t make you think?

I saw the Maverick film. Cool jets, engines roaring etc. All pretty mindless but okay to a point I suppose.

Is that in the same category?

From Barbie to DC Comics

I read that Barbie is quite witty and sharp.

Did you disagree with this after watching it?

I read that Barbie is quite witty and sharp.

I can't say whether it was or not, as I haven't seen it yet. but I can say one thing that is proven beyond all doubt, Barbie is the least woke movie ever, based on the rule of go woke go broke.

I find this point interesting.

I found that some people quietly stopped using ‘go woke, go broke’ after the spectacular success of Barbie.

On the other hand, I found others arguing that Barbie actually isn’t woke, or at least isn’t woke their own personal understanding of woke means - hence ‘go woke, go broke’ still stands. I’m surprised they didn’t get into discussions of what ‘broke’ actually means in their own personal opinion. All very muddled.

I found the first approach a better side alley to slip down. I’d recommend it to those in such a situation.

“Modest”

Ha.

$25 million for this kind of film is an absolute disaster. That’s…awful. Just awful. It’s the second worst DCEU opening ever, and it will almost certainly lose a massive amount of money

There have always been popcorn movies. People like them, you see.

Do go ahead and share your top 5 films.

Of course you won’t.

When did the dumbing down begin ?

The Cannonball Run is pretty dumb so maybe 1981. But so was Smokey and the Bandit and that was 1977.

The Carry On movies were traffic-stoppingly dumb and they started in the late 50's.

Ooooh, how intelligent were we and how dumb can we get ? It keeps me awake at night.

The “Barbie” phenomenon is far from over.

Oh, you can be sure about that. Nazi-feminism is far from over.

Just watched the movie this weekend. Didn't read any reviews to avoid spoilers and I was expecting some quirky, family comedy but wow! Nothing could have prepared me for all that... garbage.

That movie reminds me why I've stayed away from living in 'murica all these years.

Does feminism mean exactly the same thing for everybody? Camille Paglia, Naomi Wolf, Andrea Dworkin, etc all have different views and interpretations on feminism. Why is 'woke' any different.

But I can see why you're mystified that 'woke' can mean something different for different people.

Political extremists like you whether far left or far right thrive on polarity. They refuse to accept and get muddled by multiple paradigms because they're adamant that there's only one interpretation, usually theirs, and if you don't share their opinion, belittle or insult other views because it threatens their ability to categorize people into nice little boxes (black or white) to fit their simpleton world.

Saw it last weekend and I actually really enjoyed it. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were fantastic. Only seen Gosling in moody dramatic roles ("Drive", "Only God Forgives", "Blade Runner", "The Nice Guys") but he really should do more woke blockbusting films based on popular toys.

A movie did that? I mean, I find regular mass shootings and increased anti-Asian sentiment during these Covid years more off-putting, but yeah, okay.

Can a man who toils under the suffocating oppression of nazi-feminism momentarily suspend belief and enjoy a quirky, family comedy ?

Evil must stalk the shadows of a Sandra Bullock movie.

Paustovsky

This film and Sandra Bollocks usual fare may be ok for the air heads and the limp of wrist, but not my cup of tea, you see.
