Nothing unexpected, people want to keep going to the theaters and a superhero movie, especially about one as popular as spider-man, would need to be really bad not to get that much money. Competition is also relatively weak at this moment so that have to help even more.

And some people ain't taking precautions with this omicron going around. OTOH, some people just like junk.

Is ridiculous that we here have to wait till jan before we can watch it in the theaters.

Great news for 12 year olds.

Whoever decides when movies get released in Japan is obviously unaware of the Internet and how movies get spoiled online.

A couple of billion it would seem, that's a pretty sizable "some."

I really don't get this super-hero thing. You guys are not tired of watching the same thing again and again ?
bass4funk
i don’t get the entire Manga thing as well and yet, millions like it.

That's right, the same superhero movie over, over and over again..
Really??.. You can't compare a single and so repetitive Hollywood superhero movie with the universe that is manga, manga is a very, very varied and extensive subject..
bass4funk
That’s your view, I think the abstract characters and plots high schools, changing robots, office themes are quite repetitive as well. Again, it depends on what you like and judging by the box office sales they make, means that millions do like Marvel and DC. Like I always say, it’s all subjective.

I really don't get the marvel stuff, but taste in culture is personal and I'm happy for people to be enjoying whatever they like given how rough life has been these last two years. It is good to see cinemas surviving, regardless of what the movies are. The alternative is for all of our culture to be controlled by a small number of tech companies, streaming material.

And some people predicted movie theaters are dead, lol
I don't want to spoil it for people, but a big draw to the movie is, shall we say, combining what was once thought impossible. ;-)
And 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, with 98% Audience Score
Obviously, people enjoy the interactions between the characters............. what ifs............. lol

didn't even cover 0.01% of plots manga has to offer.
