Great film.. but i was really hoping for drive my car to win, especially after it won the best film award from the International Film Critic Federation.

Anyway, Hamaguchi won the best screenplay. Personal opinion:- Drive my car and A hero are much much much better films.

Sounds like an interesting movie.

I would never have guessed a woman and black guy would be up for the top prize. If you are a white straight male with talent you should hang back from the movie industry until this latest fad has played itself out.

Is that what minorities should have done when only white men were up for top prizes?

Women are not 'minorities' they make up 50 % of the population. As for actual demographic minority races the clue is in the name 'minority'. When a race makes up 6% of the population don't expect 50% representation anywhere, that would be positive racism which I'm sure we all disagree with.

it's 2021. We still have the 'old guard' howling about the 'good ol' days' and on the other end there's the ones who want to award any low talent just because it's in the name of 'diversity'.

it's 2021. It shouldn't be a matter of how many women or non-whites get awarded, let alone nominated. It should be one simple rule by now: either you have tha talent for the field or you don't.

Nonetheless, congradulations are in order for the winners - particularly those in the 'first time' category. There is a 'first time' for everything, just like the USA has its first female VP now.

Yes, your observation that my terminology was incorrect was definitely more important than addressing the issue I raised. So I'll correct this egregious mistake of mine, and rephrase my last question:

Is that what women and minorities should have done when only white men were up for top prizes?

Hopefully you'll accept my sincere apologies, and be willing to address the question I should have asked, instead of the one I most horribly and offensively screwed by leaving out a couple of words.

Yaa. It's about having sex with a car.

If you knew anything at all about the Cannes festival you would know that nominations of people of different ethnicities is the standard not the exception. 1948 prize winners were Indian, Mexican, Spanish and Russian. This is not new.

That certainly makes you wonder, does it? Then again 2020 was a lousy year for movies in the first place. Come to think of it, I can't recall when the last 'good movie year' truly was. I still can't imagine how that cliche-ridden piece of garbage 'Avatar' got all those awards and box office revenues like it did. Hell, I feel the same way about the 'Titanic' and that was in 1997. That film bored me to death and the soundtrack sucked.

2018 was the best year for international movies in the last 20 years imo.

I just stopped caring about those kind of movies.

Titane was a great movie and i loved watching it. It's a 8/10 for me. A hero and Drive my car were my 10/10 movies of cannes this year. Memoria was a fantastic movie too but the slow pace sometimes got onto my nerves while watching it. My worst movies of cannes were Flag Day and Emergency Declaration.
