I'm assuming those who don't like the "....GT" shows don't watch them.

Aren’t there enough of these crappy shows already ? - insert country’s name Idol, the voice, & now insert country’s name Got Talent.
studios love these reality shows because they’re cheap to make.

I find these type of shows ghastly and do not like how the exploit people.

I think they tried an AGT type show in Japan but it didn't work. Do you think it might be because people would rather, for whatever reason, watch so called Geionojin do their stuff versus seeing a total unknown hopeful performing? You'd think a country as big as Japan would have good talent show. And I'm not talking about the crap at the end of the year or on NHK Sunday mornings.

Japan's Got Talent will begin in 2023 in February I believe.
It will be very surprising if the format follows the amateur / off the street format of other GTs.

I remember when I was 16 at this time, 'Star Search' debuted. It was autumn 1982, 40 years ago. Each season got the year into the name a la 'Star Search 83', 'Star Search 84' and so on. This continued on until 1999 BION and by that time most of us had long forgotten it. That show featured contests in more than music, it also had comedy and acting scenes that were judged by the judges.
One thing to note: the California vocal group Venice lost the first competition round, but they went on to success as session vocalists for several artists' albums and tours. I saw them featured as backup singers on Roger Waters' epic 'The Wall' tour in 2010. The group who beat them was a black lady soul trio named Hot, and I don't recall ever seeing or hearing from them ever again. As 'Star Search' came to an end at the end of the millennium, some of the pop tarts like Britney, Xtina and such were showcased. They ain't worth a damn.
Then 'American Idol' (US answer to Britain's 'Pop Idol') appeared with its rigged-up 'contests' and most of these 'idols' went nowhere. A few like say Rubben Studdard were good but they were set up with hack songwriters and hack producers and told to sing the lyrics written for them. The CDs released were junk and the talent and potential of aspiring 'idols' were wasted. A sad pity.
Forty years of this crapola. I don't even watch the Grammys or American Music Awards anymore. 'Star Search' wasn't that much fun 40 years ago and by any other name this trash sure isn't now. Destroy it!!!
