We would have hoped rock music had moved on enough that this was pretty ho-hum nearly 30 years after their prime. But they had a few nice ditties that are far-from-regularly bettered since then.

Definitely Maybe is a stone cold classic. Personally I never liked Wonderwall and Don't look back in anger. They're both "sing at karaoke to try and get into Shazza's underwear" songs, but when Oasis go hard, they're excellent.

I don't really get the hype about this. Oasis were great, but that was 30 years ago. Time to move on, isn't it?

I can't think of a more overrated band, can you? (Spice Girls comes to mind, LOL. Same era, same hysterical British corporate marketing hype).

Boring, uninspired lyrics, bland, stolen riffs and chord progressions, terrible, almost childish solos and musicianship, blatantly false packaging as "the next Beatles" when that's one of the worst insults to the extremely talented and important latter band, and with one of the lamest "frontmen" in the history of pop music. Please continue to stay "Half The World Away"! LOL

There's a difference. Oasis had at least one musically gifted member, i.e. Noel. They all played actual instruments, whether you liked the results or not. The Spice Girls had zero discernible talent and were 100% a product of hype.

This reminds me of the types who like the ‘old Fleetwood Mac’. Hand them a guitar and they’ll go through their full repertoire of the intros to ‘Purple Haze’ and ‘Smoke on the Water’.

Try to avoid them at parties and but if you get caught, don’t get onto the subject of films. You’ll age a decade in one conversation.

Yes. Good album. I remember reading that Noel Gallagher had written the best tracks of the first 2 albums before the first album was released. Don’t know if that’s true but makes sense as they didn’t reach the same heights after that. Still some good stuff on the later albums though.

Please don't get back..

Surprisingly dismissive post by your standards. I was expecting a reasoned, adult view of how many Oasis fans have been hoping for this.

These two make great music together. Mind you taking ego out of the picture. Now behave boys and get along hard working Brits are paying for the ticket. Brotherly love.

Many years ago I saw them on Jools Holland's show, but it appeared that there had been the usual fraternal bust-up at some point because Liam didn't appear. It didn't matter; Noel took over and it was like they never even needed Liam. They ended the show with "Round are way" with a full set of brass instruments, and it was just brilliant.

The obvious one is Queen.

I can't think of a more overrated band, can you?

The obvious one is Queen.

How so? One of the great frontmen, a bassist who's responsible for not one but two of the all time classic bass riffs, a guitarist of whom Steve Vai says ""After I heard 'Queen II,' Brian May became my god, and I studied everything about his playing? And the Live Aid performance which is routinely voted the greatest live performance ever?

Apart from that, what's the "over-rated" bit?

I don't like everything Queen did, but "overrated" seems to be a stretch and a half.

I never got into Britpop.

Worse yet: don't say the slightest negative thing about the Beatles if you want to leave that party before your next ten birthdays have come and gone.

Some of it was good. There were comparisons to the great days of 60s UK bands - The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Kinks etc.

Not that good.

That was more media driven but that 60s collection of UK bands was phenomenal.

Even worse are the prog rock types who’ll tell you the Beatles weren’t that good musically. They’ll tell you about unusual and difficult time signatures and the joys of 10-minute drum solos.

If you meet those who talk about ‘selling out’, you are really in for a treat…

Oh yeah, musical snobbery takes many forms.

I'm not much into the Beatles, but I certainly recognise their importance. But their fans can be the most tedious boomers you could imagine. And I'd still probably listen to a Beatles track than a 35 minute "opus in nine parts" which features lots of guitar noodling. Unless it's Jethro Tull, who can pull it off.

“the guns have fallen silent. the stars have aligned. the great wait is over. come see. it will not be televised...”

the 14-date tour of the uk and ireland in 2025 has just been announced.

apparently, this time around the revolution will not be televised...

The band that believe their own hype. Nice for their fans that they've confirmed their comeback tour, but for me? Meh... I preferred PULP.

It is confirmed.

Reunion tour with gigs at Wembley, Manchester, and Cardiff.
