The original seemed to be very popular with women, there were a large group that ate lunch together and talked about the episodes at my last workplace. I wonder what feedback was received to indicate they needed more female writers? Point of opinion, they can have 100% female writers for all I care, just curious what the drivers are for the change.

The good thing with HOTD they didn’t go THAT woke, they made the Valerian’s black, which when you read the books doesn’t seem far-fetched given where region where they’re from, so it’s not that strange and the doesn’t definitively give a racial description of these people so it’s plausible. So I don’t think it’s a big deal, some people do have a problem with it, but it’s a small minority, so the uproar is not that big or that bad. Overall, the show looks and feels great and they already got signed for a second season based on popular projections.
As for the new “Lord of the Rings” show, it’s so beyond woke that the reviews are just beyond horrible. They went beyond woke and went way beyond and branched out from Tolkien’s books and vision. Bezos spent a billion to bring the show to Amazon to a new generation and it’s already crash and burning before taking off, so this show is in very big trouble.

More pathetic prequels/sequels???...
Good for the sheeps..

I'll pass. We already know what happens. Prequels are unnecessary and obviously just milking the success of what they are trying to come before.
Bob Fosse
I find the notion of complaining that hobbits shouldn’t be black ridiculous. It’s a fantasy story. “Dragons should have 4 toes not 5!” oookaaay.
Mr Kipling
I'm happy they are adding more diversity..... That show is crying out for a gay dragon.

And yet they couldn't come up with an original story but had to piggyback and leech onto the success of male producers who laid down the foundations.
Pathetic.

Tolkien spent decades building his world and the books LOTR, etc are popular for a reason. Not everything needs to change to match today's sensibilities. I mean are all current, modern things happening today always good or positive. No. Elves are a race, are white, and have long hair. There are no black, Hispanic, or Asian elves. Female dwarves have beards. Yet the female actors and producers refuse to allow a bearded female dwarf. Why? I guess it's not feminine. Galadriel wasn't really a warrior but in Rings of Power she's like the 2nd coming of Joan of Arc.
I just finished watching the Sandman series and it has its ups and downs. The downs come from some mediocre writing but more from the fact that at least 40% of the main characters are gender and race switched. Luckily their personas are pretty much intact but many expected the characters to be same as from the graphic novel which made it popular in the first place.

From what I’ve been hearing, the first episode of HOTD is a masterpiece. They’re calling it a masterpiece and (maybe even) better than GOT. … (I know this is ridiculous but !) some reviewers said it’s going to be better than Breaking Bad. I think all of you negative folks out there should give it a chance. we’re in for a treat with this one. :) ;The Rings of Power, as some of you already mentioned, has problems, the kind that could’ve been avoided; I’m guessing it won’t be as good as HOTD but… we’ll see. :)

I will bet the whole world and everyone in it that after 5 seasons it is not fit to be uttered in the same sentence as BB. Don't listen to 'critics', they have no credibility anymore.

He won’t be able to answer this, as he hasn’t seen it either.

Elves aren’t real.

OnTheTrail, not all women. There are some women who don't go to fantasy shows wanting to see rape scenes when that's a very real concern for women in real life. Fantasy is supposed to be about escape. In any case, you can find a lot of reasons why more female writers were deemed "necessary" with a quick Google search using some of the keywords in this very article (women, misogyny, Game of Thrones).
Bob Fosse
There are no white elves. Just as there are no Asian, black or hispanic elves. It’s a fantasy story about a race that never existed outside of our imagination.
I’m a lifelong reader and student of Tolkien. He really wouldn’t care one whit about this nonsense. He’d care about the story.
It’s rather telling however that some people are angry that their fantasy world characters are the wrong colour and try to use real world races to justify it.
MilesTeg
No they're not. But Tolkien's elves are white. Nothing is stopping writers and producers to make Elves any color they want. Then write an original story with diverse elves. If you're lazy and want to use Tolkien's works then respect the lore that he built. No one is forcing them to use Tolkien's lore.
Again. Then write your own story instead of banking on Tolkien's works. They just want to cash in and lazily use Tolkien's works to make money cause they know their own story would be nowhere as popular as Tolkien's world. You know Tolkien? You've met him? There were black people when Tolkien wrote the Middle Earth saga. If we wanted to have black elves, he would've included them. Just write your own original story about elves and make them any color you want. Then nobody can say boo.
Strangerland
Were they? I'm suspecting you just made that up based on your own assumptions. Did Tolkien actually state they were white in his books? I don't remember any mention of racial color, only different species like orcs and whatnot.
MilesTeg
Tolkien gave detailed descriptions of all the races in his world. That was one of his strengths and one reason why his books were so popular. You clearly haven't read his works and sound like a broken record on the turntable.
Express sister
End of conversation, then.
Oh, I guess not. The color of elven skin is not “lore”, and it isn’t important. Are you one of those people who freaked out when you heard the live action Little Mermaid will have a black Ariel?
Strangerland
I watched House of the Dragon, it was enjoyable. I'm looking forward tot his series.

That is perfectly alright, the show is not to your personal taste, but millions of fans like myself are overly excited about this.
Actually, it's not. GOT was great up until season 4 and then that's when the troubles started. The writers started to add and change and go in a totally different direction from Martin and his books and that ticked off a lot of people particularly season 8.
This new series and directors are not going to make that same mistake. It's already ranked 9.1 on IMDb. DOTD is definitely following the book more and you can tell that the directors have been listening to Martin and the fans, so this show is already becoming a huge hit.
The Rings of Power will be lucky if they can get a second season as bad as the reviews have been.
