Sad day. I always enjoyed watching his interviews, which were respectful with being too deferential.

He created an incredibly valuable archive of interviews which (hopefully) has been preserved and digitalised and will last forever. A great life's work.

I am sad - he was great

They're great interviews, challenging for the viewer too because he often talks about acting technique and instruction methods used at drama schools, which is not something ordinary people like me know about, even if we are interested in movies.

The Gandolfini interview is a good watch to see how much acting he did to become Tony Soprano.

Lipton said his favorite guest on the show was Bradley Cooper, because he was a former student.

Lipton and Cooper, who can be seen asking Sean Penn a question in a 1999 episode of the show, both teared up when he returned as a guest in 2011. Lipton retired as host in 2018.

Ya could watch old videos of young student Bradley Cooper in the front row of his teacher Lipton's class "Inside the Actors Studio" like this:

Lipton was known, and often parodied, for his highbrow and sometimes worshipful tone with his subjects, and for his intensive preparation, represented by a stack of blue notecards that held his meticulously researched questions.

He would start preparing those blue cards 3 to 4 weeks before the interview with the actor/actress

He worked as a pimp for a year in Paris after World War II, Lipton told Parade magazine in 2013. He was broke and planning to leave the city when a prostitute he knew suggested he represent her and others.

RIP
