A revival of the hit show "Sex and the City" will come to HBO Max, the network announced Sunday, and will star all of its original leads except actress Kim Cattrall.
The new series, titled "And Just Like That...", will consist of 10 episodes and feature Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, HBO said in a statement.
Parker played protagonist and narrator Carrie Bradshaw. Nixon and Davis played her best friends, lawyer Miranda Hobbes and art dealer Charlotte York, respectively.
Cattrall, who played sexually liberated publicist Samantha Jones, was not mentioned in the statement. HBO did not specify why she was not returning.
The story will follow the three women as they navigate love and friendship in their 50s. HBO did not specify a premiere date but said that production is set to start in New York City in late spring.
Parker, who will also produce alongside Nixon, Davis and Michael Patrick King, posted a teaser trailer on Instagram Sunday.
The short video is a montage of classic New York City shots, intercut with images of Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw's iconic computer screen, on which the phrases "And just like that..." and "The story continues..." are typed out. Parker's signature voiceover accompanies the clips.
"I grew up with these characters, and I can't wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them," said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, in the statement.
The original "Sex and the City," which HBO described as "groundbreaking" in its statement, was created by Darren Star based on Candace Bushnell's eponymous 1997 book. It premiered in 1998 and ran for six seasons.
The show was also made into two movies that came out in 2008 and 2010. A prequel series, "The Carrie Diaries," premiered on the CW in 2013 and ran for two seasons.
It is unclear if Star will return for the new series. While promoting his latest project, the Netflix series "Emily in Paris," he told industry specialist The Hollywood Reporter in October that he had no interest in returning to "Sex and the City."

Kim Cattrall cannot stand Sarah Jessica Parker and she has been saying no to a reunion for years now. The wife will be happy to hear about the reboot but I can skip it.

This show has ruined so many young women's lives, it's an awful example for women if how to live their lives. They hit late 30's realise suddenly that the chances of finding a trustworthy loving partner is gone along with any hopes of kids and a family. Then loneliness in old age awaits. Sad.
toolonggone
If that's what you think, then you really don't think much of women. I know plenty of women who watched and enjoyed the show and not one who wasn't able to separate it from reality or had it ruin their lives. Do men have this problem when enjoying television programs?
samuraivunyl
A sad program so sad women who watched it. Will be even sadder for even sadder women who will watch it. If people's lives are so empty that they watch this trash to fill up some of the mostly empty space between their ears, then corona is the least of our problems

Disgusting show that helped ruin a generation of women.

Not my thing but I doubt that it ruined anyone's lives. Some people do get triggered easily.
And btw, what is that grey speckled fluffy mess at the top left of the photo? Is that thing sitting on top of somebody's head?

Eww! NO!

Kim Cattrall was the main reason I watched it.

No one wants to see 60 years olds trying to be 20... no one wants this TV show

Still, could it be any worse that it was the first time?

@Eppee
Yes, check out that stats.
New York City has more than 300,000 more single women between the age of 45-64 than men. It's a graveyard for over the hill ladies unfortunately.

That's why there's astroglide. I can't wait to see it! Will Carrie finally land Mr. Big now that she is pushing 50??? I say YES!
SandyBeachHeaven
They look well beyond Jukujo, but never heard of the program let alone see an episode. Were they young in the first run? What City? The only place we ever called The City was NY.

If the re-boot is realistic there should be a LOT of cats in the new show LOL!!
And the line, ""where have all the good men gone"" should figure prominently :)

Can’t wait for the incontinence episode lol

Kim Cattrall’s got the right idea. I never got the appeal of SATC, all the characters were awful people, Carrie Bradshaw was the most appalling person ; self centred, crass, dishonest, reckless, selfish, fickle, disloyal, and we were supposed to admire her. Yuck.
GdTokyo
Slags in the city.
When they were young(er) I found them trite and simplistic. Now that they’re old,.... just pathetic.
The only one I ever respected as a strong woman was Samantha. Now THAT is a woman.

I'm not sure why so many men are bashing Sex in the City and saying it ruined a generation of women. Is it possible that these men only feel confident around demure, passive women and that successful and confident women make them lose their ... ahem ... mojo?
starpunk
Another reboot of another vapid TV show, this one from an ugly period in entertainment. The late 90s - 00s decade period sucked in SOOOOOO many ways? Who te hell wants to remember, relive or revive all this trash? We've had a Spice Girls 'reunion', will there be a 'Touched By An Angel' reboot too?
No!
No, no, no!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELL, NO!!!!!
starpunk
And for that matter, is an 'Ally McBeal' reboot in the works, too?
Time to destroy the TV, just like Elvis used to do. BANG!

Wow! It’s totally okay when older men are seeing as being sexually active on tv shows but heaven forbid women in their 50s be depicted as such. I get it if the show isn’t to your taste and you don’t care for reboots but the vitriol being directed towards middle-aged women, on a fictitious tv show, is pretty pathetic and rather telling about those who seem so worked up about it. Really, just don’t watch it if it’s that triggering for you.
