Who says it isn't a gay anthem anymore?

Biden supporters show their true colors.

Truth is this is a smart wedge politics strategy to undermine a democrat voting bloc while at the same time exposing their hypocrisy and ingrained bigotry.

YMCA is the gay anthem, always has been. What is Trump trying to tell us? What did Putin and Musk do to him?

1 ( +7 / -6 )

"Let's give President Trump a chance, regardless of what you may have thought about him in the past," he added. "Let's see what he's going to do moving forward and if he does things to restrict LGBTQ rights, Village People will be the first to speak out."

Sensible is always nice.

Decadent and pathetic show..

JJE thinks this is "smart wedge politics "

Whatever mate.

I remember when politics sought to bring people together, not "wedge " them.

I don't like Trump but there are many photos of him at Studio 54, a legendary 1970s gay-run nightclub notorious for turning people away at the door. In the photos, there's Bianca Jagger, there's Andy Warhol, and there's Donald Trump. If Trump has any issues with gay folk, he must be good at keeping them to himself.

Contrast with Boris Johnson who became UK PM despite openly mocking gay people, Muslims, and all the usual people public schoolboys attack.

Disco heads might have hoped Trump might remember a better Studio 54 tune than YMCA, something by First Choice, Jimmy "Bo" Horne, or the like, but I doubt he spent much time on the dancefloor. His moves don't suggest it.

ps. Stating the obvious, but "Born in the USA" is a desparate cry for help. Its not a celebration of America. Springsteen's original acoustic version sounds bleak and the song only became bombastic when the big 1980s keyboard riff was added.

"YMCA' journeys from gay anthem to Trump theme tune."

And then, the Guardian clears the misconception.

"YMCA has never been gay, says the song’s lyricist and singer

Victor Willis of Village People says the hit is an anthem to Black male friendship – and his wife threatens to sue those who say otherwise"

Biden supporters show their true colors.

I think we are seeing plenty of colors from the MAGAs.

The inclusiveness that Trump stands for is incredible.

Decadent and pathetic show..

A total farce. Everybody who took part in this is a total kiswsazz and a sellout. From Carrie Underwood chicken spread to the ninny Lee Greenwood to the juvenile pre-teen Kiddie Crock to even the Village People. The latter have disgusted me the most, they have sold their credibility, their PRIDE and their souls to an egotistical arrogant tin god who hates their 'kind' and practically everyone else.

'YMCA' and 'In the Navy' were once anthems used for sports and of course the USN which I was in, but now they have totally trash canned all the kitsch and thrill of it all by sucking up to this uncouth hateful sassybrat excuse of a human being.

Sickening and grody to the MAX!

Gotta love trump’s dancing - like he’s ‘milking’ two cows

Surprised to see they are still alive. Many of the gay people I knew from that era died in the 80s. Great song, but I prefer "Macho Man" myself. There's a lot to celebrate today. I'm especially happy about the death of woke. Kamala must be on her fifth bottle of wine by now.

I was surprised to see not only were they still alive, but they weren't obese. Then, I realized, only one of them is an original member.

Not a fan of Trump, but even I'm celebrating the end of Biden, Blinken and Kamala. Absolute disaster which has seen USA slide further into the abyss, dragging with it many Americans and dead Palestinian children

Trumps use of a variety of songs reflect his and or his minders misunderstanding of those songs meaning.

Born in the USA often thought of as a Patriotic Anthem is in fact quite the opposite - an anti-war song reflecting on the hardships, loss and abandonment of soldiers by the govt.

And Using CCR's anti-war song, Fortunate Son about how rich spooners can avoid the draft is just pure self-mockery. Big chuckles that one.

Or Rage against the Machine's Killing in the Name of - a dark look at racial injustice and police brutality. What were they thinking - lol.

And YMCA is the epitome of the Gay movements thrust onto the world musical stage - a celebration of the freedom to express oneself regardless of social norms and sexuality. Be Happy, Be Gay!

And plenty of others.

Which all reflects on Trump Inc - only read the headlines, not concerned with the real story.

Waiting for the musical Trump to appear on Broadway and the Westend featuring all of his "hits".

Trump's devotion to YMCA may be a hidden tribute to his mentor Roy Cohn -- a lovely human being.

Meant to include some of the lyrics of YMCA to celebrate life's Gaiety.

"........You can stay there, and I’m sure you will find

Many ways to have a good time

It’s fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

It’s fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

They have everything for you men to enjoy

You can hang out with all the boys."

I suppose that's what Trump and the Boyz - Elon, Stephie, Kash, JD & Co.... got in mind for hte next 4 years.

Dance Baby Dance.

Gender confused persons, i.e. LGBT, may have employed this song as a rallying call, which is like people of Christian faith choosing “Highway to Hell” as worship music. The YMCAs have nothing to do with gender confusion nor are solely related to France.

They have everything to do with the Young Men's Christian Association.

browny1,

Thanks for the song list. It brought back memories.

I think we can probably agree the first three are angry, anti-establishment songs. (YMCA was different, I think. A happy song for gay people.)

It seems many (most?) Trump supporters are anti-establishment too. I can understand that. I'm sure most of us get angry at governments and politicians that don't bring change that we want. But what hurts my head is why people would support people like Trump and his gang. Sure, they are an alternative to the current establishment, but I don't think they'll take most people down the path they want to travel. I hope I'm wrong.

Reminder you were only interested in the Palestinian issue as a way to cover up from China's dog russia's misdeeds.

Right, the song has nothing to do with "hang(ing) out with all the boys".
