Depressing. 2016 has definitely been one of the hardest years for deaths of some very great musicians. Hopefully, next year we won't lose so many of the great ones.

You forgot GEORGE MARTIN, the man behind the Beatles tapestry of songs. He forever shaped and changed what we think of as "popular music" and influenced all the others on your list.

Some others that sadly come to mind are Nick Menza, Jon English and Scotty Moore.

Aside from Cohen, Kantner, and White, they all died before their time, arguably. Cohen and Bowie are the hardest for me to swallow, although Prince has a special place in my youth, and of course even the day of his death people were still listening to Wham's "Last Christmas", and who can forget "I Want your Sex" followed immediately by "You Gotta Have Faith"?
Here's hoping the last few days of 2016 don't see any more celebrity deaths, and while it is inevitable we'll see some in 2017 I hope time is a little kinder to them. RIP to those lost.

Rest in peace to them all. Thanks to them for many, many cherished moments listening to their music !

They forgot quite a few folk, or hadn't known about them. One that came to mind was Jean-Jacques Perrey, a pioneer of electronic music and former partner of Gershon Kingsley (of Popcorn fame), who died of lung cancer at his Swiss home on November 4 this year. If you don't know who he is, look him up! You'll be surprised at what he did!

Carrie Fisher as well now, albeit not a musician.
WTF 2016?

That's quite a roll. And still 4 more days to go.

The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy.

Thanks for mentioning this. Pretty well a straight arrow with a strong work ethic who did not fool around with drugs, etc

As long as Britney isn't really dead then 2016 wasn't all doom and gloom.
Frederic Bastiat
Yes, death is a part of the cycle of life. Some deaths are more notable than others, but so what.

Its not over yet. My guess it feels like a lot because these are the folks who influenced the current generation running the world and media and all. kind of baby boomers.

It appears that being a famous musician brings down the average age of death in the world.
