Nobody Knows is one of the most moving and disturbingly saddest Japanese films in the last 20 years. These stories need to be told.
Life is not always about success stories and unfettered happiness.

Congrats ! So he finally won his Palm d'Or.
As a connoisseur of the The Golden Age of Japanese filmmaking I wasn't so familiar with contemporary developments, till I ran into Koreeda's 'Umimachi Diary' or 'Our Little Sister' [2015] this year, a story about 3 sisters living in an old house in Kamukara and the arrival of a half sister. Also saw 'Sochite chichi ni naru' or 'Like Father, Like Son [2013]. Both movies were well-made and pleasant to watch, not great, but inspired me to follow contemporary J filmmaking and Mr Koreeda in particular.

This is huge! I just watched the preview on youtube. I remember last year's winner, The Square, and caught that in San Francisco. Man, it felt like Kubrick had made another film. I was pretty pleased about the special showing of 2001 A Space Odyssey there also. I caught that in 1968 in CInerama. A few times. Met Douglas Trumbull in San Francisco two years ago. You guys ever see the film, Sparrow? That's a favorite of mine...

What I've seen of Mr. Koreeda's films have been excellent. Looking forward to seeing this one as well. Congratulations!

Big congrats to Koreeda! We need more great Japanese films out there besides anime and horror. I’m definitely going to see this.

The film sounds interesting. I suggest Abe watch it so he has some idea how ordinary people are struggling to make ends meet. He might even find out how much bread and a cup of coffee costs.
Ganbare Japan!
Amazing news! Congratulation Kore-eda san! I hope he now will win the biggest prize : The Oscar.

„Manbiki Kazoku“ is the translation for the title.

Heartfelt congratulations to Hirokazu Koreeda, my favourite film maker. Everything he makes deserves applause and awards - his films are outstanding.
