I am a huge Marvin Gaye fan, but I thought the Blurred Lines suit was ridiculous. With that as the precedent, anything is possible.

Led Zeppelin laughably ripped off loads of people, all the bluesmen, the Dazed and Confused guy, the Small Faces, and then had the cheek to credit the songs to "Page/Plant". This one is tenuous, but still strikes me as karma coming back at them.

US Copyright laws are a mess and far too long. Protection was meant to allow the creator to make back their costs with a nice profit. It was never meant to be a "forever protected" license.

If the original owner of the riff didn't sue during his lifetime, why should some copyright holding company be allowed to sue 40 yrs later? It wasn't like the guy didn't hear to riff or own the LZ album.

Ach, music has always been about "borrowing" from other tunes. It's as old as the hills.

Even classical composers paid "hommage" to each other.

Love both Spirit and Led Zep all the same.

Toasted Heretic, we agree.

Isn't there a statute of limitations on this? I mean the writer had complained of similarities so he knew about the potential infringement before he died 20 years ago.
