Brazil: We were just gonna let it slide, but then Leo asked us to do something, and well, we couldn’t really say no, to Leo, I mean.

The amazon uses almost all the oxygen that it creates according to NOAA due the plant matter decomposition. The seas off the coast of Brazil have an annual plankton revival due to deep underwater currents from Antarctica are where much of the oxygen in that region of the planet comes.

The oft-repeated claim that the Amazon rainforest produces 20% of our planet’s oxygen is based on a misunderstanding. In fact nearly all of Earth’s breathable oxygen originated in the oceans, and there is enough of it to last for millions of years.

If you have interest in the science, PBA/NOVA did an episode called Earth from Space https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpFryXQbVEA

We should use facts, not questionable news, to get people behind retention of the Amazon rain forest.

£20 million is a paltry sum. The young actor is correct. We must do more. The health of the planet is at stake.

The young actor is correct.

At 44, I wouldn’t call him “young“ But yah, he’s right.

Maybe if Leo stopped jetting around the world and parked his yacht we would all be better off.

Suit up sonny and take action yourself instead of virtue signalling like the vapid narcissist you are.

Right.. like he has any idea of all the ulterior motives behind this by the current governments opposition, it's not that simple. The fires are seasonal(in most part) and have happened every year. No it's not great, yes the idea is to put it out OF COURSE. What's more, he should really work on getting his country back in order with its own nature considering they only left 16% of their native vegetation remaining.

ps: the oceans are the real lungs of the earth, not the amazon.

I love your acting Leo, please stick to that.

So someone is not allowed to criticize unless they are willing to pay all the money to fix a problem?

What a ridiculous idea. Try to keep the things you are angry about to something within reason please.

Strangeland makes a good point.

Brazil turned down the 20 million euros from the G7 while throwing insults about it. I guess they want it to burn?

I guess dumb dumb doesn't realize forest fires are a natural occurrence that renew with trees that'll give oxygen into the future. Siberian trees serve the same purpose in summer. Overreacting.....Nature ebbs and flows.

I feel like you some of you shouldn't bother commenting on things you don't read. If some of you had bothered to read before hopping on your keyboard you'd know he is trying to do some things and he's not just running his mouth. Not only is he donating millions of dollars but he's gone out before to help fight fires there and plans on going back to help again.

Yes, at least someone notorious is trying to do something about this! And what are the political 'leaders', particularly Brazil's president doing about the crisis?

If you are in power and you don't fix a problem - you are the problem! US and other nations' armed forces went to Haiti for relief missions on the same day the 2010 earthquake occurred. We must act in the same way NOW.
