Good luck banning selfies. It's a shame Netflix is banned. A movie is a movie regardless if it's shown on a big or small screen. Shouldn't it be about the content?

I want to agree... I think if a movie makes its way to the theaters it should be eligible. If it is strictly TV... well Spielberg is right I think in that there are the Emmy awards and generally speaking the big budget films don't get a look in there so why should made for TV movies have a chance at Oscars. They need to be careful how they approach it though or they'll risk cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I have mix feelings about this. However I think Netflix gives more hope to film makers than Festivals. Most festivals are political and select their entries based on connections after taking lot's of money from film makers who they just rejected. Whereas online streaming platforms like Netflix who are now starting to make things easier for film makers to distribute and showcase their works. Indeed to have a theater screening in a famous film festival is great, but I think the game is changing. People watch movies now using mobile devices so why would a film maker waste money and effort joining festivals where only a handful of people in a theater can see? when they can show to the entire world what they've produced in just few clicks and at the same time get paid. Before the priority of film makers is to show their movies on theaters, but now I think showing it to as many people as possible is more likely.
