He is liable........

Maybe - that is what the trial will determine.

This is tragic. I feel for everyone involved.

The perfect crime...

Hutchins’ death already has led to new safety precautions in the film industry.

The trial is likely to be complicated and may take a long time to be decided according to some reports, but at least it has some positive consequences that are already being implemented. Sad that a life had to be lost to abandon practices that have been unnecessarily risky.

Impossible to prove. Did Baldwin knowingly fire a gun loaded with live rounds?

Impossible to prove

Can't really say that until it's been tried. Maybe they can.

Proved without a shadow of a doubt. Don't think so.

Note to the editor:

That headline needs to be reworked.

For example: "Prosecutors file charges against Alec Baldwin in set shooting."

In his lawsuit, Baldwin said that while working on camera angles with Hutchins, he pointed the gun in her direction and pulled back and released the hammer of the weapon, which discharged.

.

So he has changed from

"i did not fire the gun. it went off on its own."

to

"pulled back and released the hammer of the weapon, which discharged"

Sounds like he changed his story.

.

But real questions are still out there

Did he know it had a live round ?

Why did he not check the gun himself ?

Who put the live round in the gun ?

What a sad and confusing tragedy, hard to imagine what had happened, but safety protocols and rules were violated for sure, accidents happen daily.

It's pretty clear that none of you is familiar with how things work on a movie set, specifically as pertains to firearm use; armory and prop management; and the specific roles and duties of cast and crew in general.

Yeah! The answers to these questions should be figured out. They should get like someone who could listen to the accusation against him, and have him answer those questions, then deliver like a judgement on whether or not he did anything wrong. This person should probably be well versed in the law...

This shouldn't be a difficult conviction for the prosecutor to secure.

Maybe. But defendants also get the opportunity to defend themselves, and we only know the narrative that the media has put out, so really, anyone saying it shouldn't be difficult is really just armchair lawyering.

Good, it’s about time….seeing as he saw fit to POINT the gun and pull the TRIGGER.

Was that girl I the movie ?!, no. So why point a gun at her? Hmmm? Why ?

"has led to new safety precautions in the film industry"

Well, there was already plenty of regulations already put in place from previous accidents in filming movies, plenty of guid lines and plenty of health and safety regulations, to which most of were not implemented on this film set. But more is welcomed so that these accidents dont happen again.

“Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun – or anywhere on the movie set,” the statement said. “He relied on the professionals with whom he worked.”

There is another famous quote from a james bond film, " assumption is the mother of all (expletive) up's", in other works check and if your not sure ask or check again. which is one of the protocols of the above comment.

The 64-year-old actor said he was told the gun was safe and has sought to clear his name by suing people involved in handling and supplying the loaded .45-caliber revolver.

But did you check to see if the gun was or wasnt loaded? never assume, always check.

Why do they use real guns? Why don't they use fake guns? I have seen fake guns at the store that look really, really, real. So real that it's alarming!

What gives? ;-0

Did he know it had a live round ?

Obviously not. Unless he was intentionally planned to kill the DP of Director. But, only the nuttiest of conspiracy nuts would think something that nutty.

Why did he not check the gun himself ?

Because it is not the actor's job.

Who put the live round in the gun ?

The Prop Master/Armorer, which are usually separate jobs, but were combined on this film to save money.

The bigger question is how such ammo found its way onto the film set. Actually, that would be the biggest question.

There are a number of different types of prop guns used for film and TV, ranging from simple rubber replicas used during rehearsals and blocking to real guns that have been disabled that are used for scenes where no shots are fired to actual firearms for scenes where shots are fired.

The reason actual guns are used is for the realism of both the barrel flash and recoil, which would be difficult and/or expensive to reproduce faithfully and consistently using CGI and "acting".

However, there has been some new tech created recently that can provide both the flash and recoil without the danger of live ammo accidents. Hopefully, it can be perfected and implemented soon.

Hakman - This shouldn't be a difficult conviction for the prosecutor to secure.

Nnnnnope. It will be extremely difficult for the prosecutor to secure.

It will be much easier to secure a conviction against the prop person/armorer, as it was she who is most responsible. The A.D. would have been found at least partially culpable, as well. But, he took a plea deal.

They really need to trace the source of the live ammo, as whomever is responsible for that being on set shares as much blame as the armorer.

Unless he was intentionally planned to kill the DP of Director

I meant to type *"intentionally planning to kill the DP or Director."*

The JT comments section could really use an edit function.

The person responsible is the on who loaded the gun with live ammunition. An actor has no way of knowing what a gun is loaded with unless he/she loaded it himself/herself.

Impossible to prove. Did Baldwin knowingly fire a gun loaded with live rounds?

Nobody is making that claim. "Involuntary manslaughter" applies to murder without intent. And for those claiming "but he's just an actor", no he wasn't. He was the producer responsible for hiring and ensuring safety on the set. That alone makes him responsible... even without the obvious addition of pulling the trigger himself.
