If someone would have told me 20 years ago that in 2018 you’ll be watching a US military propaganda/drama series with sex scenes, and rape themes on The History Channel(Disney) I would have laughed. But that was before Weinstein’s production company become popular in Hollywood. The recent Weinstein military/drama series “SIX” aired in 2017 and is now showing on History channel Japan. Canceled after the 2nd season probably because Weinstein’s scum behavior is now in the spotlight.

Keep searching, there is no soul in Hollywood, just perversion, fame seeking and greed

Especially with these type of humans.

"The more women we have in leadership positions, the less likely the incidents of harassment. So we have a lot of work to do on that front," Schaffer says.

Very true. Men have contributed to the despicable situation in which Hollywood finds itself.

"We've been living in a sexist, racist society for hundreds of thousands of years," she adds. "We're not going to undo it in a year."

Unfortunately, the male ego is one of privilege and extraordinary fragility. The worst examples do not take change in their stride - they fear it.

It is almost amusing watching the liberals turn on themselves. Hollywood is run by scum, peoe who are just not normal, like politicians, people who believe they live by different rules and can use or abuse anyone for personal gain at the expense on others. But the nonsense about lack of women directors, or so called pay gaps, trying to impose affirmative action on nonsense, it's hilarious watching them attack themselves over their own insane beliefs

"Sex sells" has been a movie mantra for ever.  If it is a prime driver of success in Hollywood, is it any surprise that it becomes a commodity and a means of asserting power and seeking advantage?

Yes - they're called men.

Can you name any women directors off the top of your head, without googling. I can only think of Katherine Bigelow, Penelope Spheeris and the late Nora Ephron - sans search engines.

I don't think it's hilarious, at all. Castigate Hollywood for using women and then calling the shameful inequality nonsense. Doesn't make much sense.

Is this the only area where the rules of not making outrageously sweeping, generalized statements about an enormous and varied group don’t apply?

One of my favorite songs is from Anti-Nowhere league...called “sex and violence”.

although punk, it sums up male testosterone led behavior.

Looking at the picture, girls, yes, band together with solidarity against gender inequality.

Then if you are serious about gender inequality, stop banding together and stop banging on about it..

Equality - if you want it - can begin when we can move on from the inapporpriate behaviour and discriminatory polemic.

Personally though I think that women are oppressed and men are evil, which is how it ever was, is and always will be.

Anybody can be oppressed for various reasons. There's oppression within minority and 'oppressed' groups themselves, somewhere. You have white WOMEN oppressing 'WOMEN of color', racial divisions in the GLBTQ community, discrimination against disabled/handicapped people of both sexes and every color and so on. .

While there is nothing wrong with having more female movie directors, the question is, 'Where are the good ones?'. It's like the question of non-white actors and actresses. We shouldn't just have 'token' racial minority characters or 'token' gay characters if they don't really add any dimension to the script.

The biggest problem today is that there just isn't very many people in Hollywood today that care about quality. Movies and TV shows today just are totally devoid of originality, vitality and inspiration.

Jimizo, well said.

And as for Hollywood "soul searching" - what a joke.

Viola Davis says: "It's way bigger than that. One out of every 4 women — and there's some statistics that say it's 1 out of 3 — will be sexually assaulted by the time they're 18."

She's very likely correct on that one. We live in a hypocritical society that claims to value 'chastity' and virginity in females and all that jive. Sexual assault is a tool of domination, ego, force and overpowering. Nothing else, but the sense of being violated leads to more shame and inner turmoil for the victim.

What Viola didn't mention is that males get sexually assaulted too - and it's not just 'Catholic priests violate boys' either. It's in every institution and people of both genders, all races and colors, all ages get assaulted. It's time for society to wake up and smell the coffee.
