Danielson,

There're still making tons of money. They each have over $300,000,00 US each.

I've already heard and seen two new songs/videos online already. One was a little bit on the 'poppy' side (but it might grow on me) and the other one reminded me of their Voulez Vous/Super Trouper era which I like the best. Those two albums (I have them on CD) were what made ABBA a guilty pleasure for us boys when we were in HS. I'm gonna try before I buy.

I think might have a few years on me. I was in Elementary School when ABBA were in their heyday and so hadn’t hit the trying to be ‘cool’ stage ( we sneered at the Madonna and Michael Jackson mania but secretly liked Bille Jean ).

I like being at an age where I don’t have to have any guilty musical pleasures. I just say I like it.

I recently listened to the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Excellent.

I just hope the blond wears really tight sequin pants again in her 1979 abbatar hologram.

Mother took me as a birthday treat to Mamma Mia west end stage show, old folk wrapped up in wall to wall Lycra.

I still need counseling to this day. Night terrors.......

Dancing Queen ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

And now we have to endure the same all over again.

My Father fomented me with a DVD of a person called "Timmy Mallet".

He surfaced in 1982.

I was frighten for my father block above the shoulders.

ABBA "Timmy Mallet".

This was the state of the nation then.

It is a act of god we all still exist.

Little wonder extraterrestrials have passed on Terra Firma Planet Earth.

The came they saw they left, screaming.

ABBA is still great. I was just poking a bit of fun at the media. Good to see the thread’s meandered along with other pop-culture references, like these “Entertainment” threads should, don’t you think?? It might attract more traffic if readers felt they had a little more room to stretch, from time to time

After the Beatles, ABBA was the first European and biggest group that made it across the Atlantic and beyond with timeless songs and very simple chord arrangements with very memorable and catchy tunes and hooks. The band had an overall count of 48 hit singles which for a non-English speaking band is phenomenal to cover the disco as well as the New Wave and the rest of the '80s is no small task. The Swedes are definitely underrated when it comes to creating music, ABBA was the first to break that barrier, but they paved the way for many great musicians to come out of Nothern Europe. Love Waterloo, deep fond memories when the song came out, excellent musically arranged. 12 string guitar, piano, tenor sax, great vocal harmonizations. Other songs such as Mama Mia, Knowing Me, Knowing You are just some of the great songs these guys wrote. Even Bono (U2) said that ABBA was one of his favorite bands and was a huge influence on him growing up. Musically, the band did it right and did it all, hope the new album will be just as good and they still possess the magic, looking forward to this new album.

Speaking of ABBA and the Teletubbies: That maniacally cooing baby/sun reminded me of the terrifying “Nagilum” entity from StarTrek:TNG S2, E2 “Where Silence Has Lease”.

Pop music generally has relatively simple chord arrangements and Abba’s aren't particularly simple.

You do know pop music tends to have relatively simple chord arrangements, don’t you?

Well, if you are a beginner musician that is correct.

It depends.

I am not a musician, neither am I knocking ABBA.

Music teachers use to lock the instruments and students hide under the desks on my approach

I love the 70's, Tamla Motown, Fuzzy Haskins. Eddie Hazel, The Izley Brothers

Frank Wilson Do I Love You Northern Soul Wigan Casino...My favorite

Pop comes down to a matter of taste.

I struggle 2021, with artists wanting, insisting they need to make a comeback.

I don't know what the motivation behind ABBA rejuvenation.

But John Lennon captures the need to step back and walk away....

I think, in the case of ABBA, it’s largely the love of making music. It’s certainly not the money (they have plenty) or the need for fame (ditto).

But John Lennon captures the need to step back and walk away....

Well, Lennon stepped back - but not for long. And he never walked away.

We should take individual snippets of Lennon thought with a grain of salt. As his old friend and sometime musical collaborator Klaus Voorman fondly recalled, John could be extremely passionate and opinionated about something, and change his mind completely 5 minutes later.

I recently listened to the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Excellent.

Some things do stand up to the test of time, like that album. However, most disco from that era doesn't because it's just plain garbage. Most music from that era just plains sucks but there's a few nuggets that shine. Just like today's music. You got culture and you got trash.

ABBA did break the monopoly of pop/rock being dominated by the US and UK. They paved the way for other terrific Swedish acts to come such as glam metalists Europe and the duo Roxette (they scored four US Number Ones). At the same time Kraftwerk from Germany revolutionized rock with their electronic music.

American radio got corporate and stupid in the 70s but there was a lot of innovative and fun music that got panned by critics but is now widely admired and loved. ABBA was bashed for being too 'saccraine', ELO was 'boring', RUSH was bashed for whatever reason, and the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Roxy Music and Bob Marley stand out and are getting the popular and critical respect they deserve. Now it's the same for ABBA.

And look at the dull rubbish acts that dominated the radio and Billboard at the time. Ah, forget it. Nobody wants to remember the Carpenters or Debbie Boone, do ya?

I am thrilled about this piece of news. ABBA has some of the best harmonies I've ever heard in music and they capture emotions in their songs so beautifully. Excited!!

Helix, yes I prodded and pokes at Lennon quotes.

I would love to have the "now" fully apricating the glam of the seventies.

The spandex, lycra.

I shuddered what Mother and I went to Mamma Mia, Mum was soaked in spandex, head to toe.

I took my polaroid, I have never let Mum forget it.

Pathetic, just pathetic...

Fine. don't buy the album. Just stop trolling.

Time to bring back the Teletubbies!!

Better to see the teletubbies than that clownish senventies circus..

Fine. Go watch the Teletubbies and leave the rest of us alone

ABBA rules. End of story.

A Swedish friend told me that they are doing this because some of the band members have run out of money, and the others decided to help them out by starting up the band again.
