Many of his works are familiar with me. He was original, creative, and innovative. George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra was always my favorite but Ozawa and BSO was better. He could get every highlight of a piece, every emotion, every note better than any conductor I know of. It hits me hard that he's died. Treat yourself to any of his works; you won't regret it. Classical music was never better.

farewell to a master. See Beethoven's 9th, Nagano Games for one of dozens of examples of his brilliance.

I have of course heard about Seiji Ozawa although I have never attended any of his concerts. In the picture above, a seven coloured rainbow necklace hangs around his neck. I wonder what it signifies? Can another reader of Japan Today inform me?

He left Japan for better horizons because the NHK orchestra and others refused to play under him.
Not pedigree enough!

The first time I encountered this gentleman, it was in my Japanese textbook 皆の日本語 many years ago.
He will be missed. Rest in peace.

I have been informed by two readers of Japan Today that the seven coloured necklace he has on in the picture is:
