Hugh Grant plays a low life, über sleazy Cockney journalist in The Gentlemen.

A heartfelt performance, obviously.

He could have been liable for £10 million in legal fees if he had not accepted the deal.

As wallace said, Grant was forced to settle because fighting in court would have left him liable to Murdoch's costs if the court awarded smaller damages than the settlement he was offered.

This rule is madness and effectively means that you cannot fight Murdoch in court unless you have enough spare cash to pay for Murdoch's lawyers. Settling out of court gives you a (slightly larger) payment but shuts you up and stops the truth from becoming public.

Good for Hugh.

That filthy geriatric Murdoch should have been put behind bars years ago and left to perish.
