The guy is an actor. I like him as an actor, but he's been elected to no office. What's his catch-phrase?

Alright, alright, alright.

Brilliant.

His opinion is equal to mine.

Enforce the current laws.

Close the loopholes.

Require gun safes and trigger guards.

Start there. Let's get some data on how that helps (or doesn't) with bad outcomes. Firearms are a right in the US. Lots of things aren't - like there is no right to drive a car. As long as firearms are a right, the only, default, stance, has to be to allow law following residents access. Just like we the right to freedom of speech for all residents without may limits exists in the US. These are equal rights in the law.

The Democrats would get rid of that too if they could.

So, is this guy just like the other movie stars that basically PROMOTE Violence in their movies, but not when he's at HOME?

Sorry, you can't have it both ways.

You're just as responsible as the NRA.

That country will never change their love for guns over people. They believe in thoughts and prayers .

And what do the lucky denizens of the garden spot you call home believe in: a failed welfare state and dangerously inbred royalty?

Where was this actor before the tragedy happened. These entertainers only show up on screen to get paid and only promote community service when it hits close to home. This is not the first gun tragedy and probably will not be the last because there's too many guns out there. The laws protect the bad guys and people with mental issues who should have NO access to guns. My point is Matthew McConaughey should have taken center stage at the White House YEARS AGO to call on Congress to “reach a higher ground" and pass gun control legislation in honor of ALL victims of gun violence. These terrible crimes happened across the US not just in his home town of Uvalde, Texas.

Should he ignore it since it was close to home, due to his being "Hollywood"? Is that what you're implying?

Or are you implying he shouldn't have come to this opinion and should be pro-antigunrights?

Or are you just whining that he didn't come to this idea as soon as you did, in which case, so? Aren't you glad he did?

He's likely to win voters in Uvalde, but lose voters everywhere else in Texas.

How many more massacres and thousands of deaths per year does the US need to act like a true modern and civilized country that falsely presumes to be and forget that rusty 1800s country mentality???..

They won't. The Second amendment is here to stay. They love their guns. More than their children.

McConaughey, a gun owner himself,

Liberals might argue he is a far-right extremist because he owns a gun.

“We want secure and safe schools and we want gun laws that won’t make it so easy for the bad guys to get the damn guns,” McConaughey said.

Sounds like he recognizes the minute percentage of non-law abiding people committing criminal acts with firearms.

Isn't this a point agreed to by all political parties?

Very American: we want the results but don't want to pay the cost. And why don't things bet better?!

Fascinating to watch these Republican senators and representatives get all twisted up in pretzel logic about why Americans need these military assault ((style) rifles to kill raccoons, coyotes and such. In other words, killing raccoons and coyotes is more important than the killing and murder of America's children. It makes perfect sense, if you're a Republican that is.

It's sad Republicans love American Guns more than American children.

thefu-You can choose to be willfully ignorant or you can take 3 minutes to Google before you post. When America banned assault style rifles from 94-04 mass shootings dropped by 37% and as soon as the ban expired they have now increased 183%. Do you need anymore proof? https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/press/dem/releases/studies-gun-massacre-deaths-dropped-during-assault-weapons-ban-increased-after-expiration

I would argue it is not primarily the American populace that makes this happen, it is the legalized bribery that is inherent in our politics. Most Americans (about 75%+) want gun reform including ban on assault weapons. Most probably don't know this, but only about 25% of Americans even own a gun and of those 3% own about 50% or 133 million guns. They are called super gun owners and they own between 10-140 guns. So this gun issue is being fought by very few citizens, but is spearheaded by the gun manufacturers, NRA and gun lobby which are able to funnel $100's of millions into campaign donations. These legalized bribes and fear mongering keep the mush brained GOP voters willing to acquiesce.
