Hey if the LGBTQ..... Want equality, well it comes with a lot of problems they now have to deal with, sorry you cannot say you want the same then say but "not this part not that part".

So she was "outed" was she really? Or was it like any heterosexual actor that a tabloid found was Dating someone or having an affair?

You live in the public eye.

What is the difference between the following?:

John Smith actor is outed for dating a man.

And

John Smith actor is married and outed for having an affair with another woman!

We accept the later but the former is somehow taboo?!?

"It was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace," Wilson tweeted.

Why is it a hard situation accepting the reality one has put themselves in?

The press in Australia is largely owned by that sleezeball blabbermouth Rupert Murdock, or at least he owns a big chunk of it. Of course, if you're seen with a certain type of person, you may have a story but you'd better have solid proof to back what you say.

Of course, certain gay celebrities never 'outed' themselves but have revealed what they are just by their actions - like Queen Latifah for instance. Or the day after gay marriages were legalized in the US, Kate Pierson of the B-52s and Barry Manilow married their partner/mates. That said it all right there.

Still, if Rebel Wilson was ready to 'come out' either by statement or action (like Kate and Barry did) then SHE should've been the one to say so on her own terms. The press had no business otherwise, esp. the Aussie media.

Can't have it both ways. If she wants to live in the spotlight then the way she lives her life will be seen under the spotlight.

Those are her terms.

Man, I miss the days when people's private lives were private. I really don't care who is married or dating who, and long as they're happy. I hate this culture of getting updates on every celebrity 's every burp and fart. Don't people have better things to do with their lives?

Man, I miss the days when people's private lives were private.

True but tabloids have been digging into celebs' private lives for several decades and ruined many lives.

She’s a public figure and Australian. What’s the big deal? They would have done the same thing regardless of the gender of the person she’s dating. Half of people in Hollywood are gay anyway and 25% are probably bi. And British tabloids are way worse.

To be honest, when I saw the article, I didn't bat an eyelid. However, this should be done in their own time. The only time I support outing is when the said person is a total homophobe and causes untold damage to the LGBT community - plenty in the US Republican party and the most vile churches. Another recent example was a homophobic Hungarian MEP who was caught sliding down a pipe outside after fleeing an orgy party in Brussels. He was an architect of some anti-gay rules back home.

So what would be or what is the difference if the tabloid was going to reveal she was dating xyz man?

She is a public figure, if she didn't want her private life on the front page then she picked the wrong career!

Unless being LGBTQ is illegal still in Australia, her dating someone male or female is fair game.

I don't get why the LGBTQ think they are due special privileges.

Again if a heterosexual actor is dating someone or having an affair it will be reported no warning no controversy even if exposing the affair will cause far more trouble than just outing someone as LGBTQ.

Ah when was this?

I am not young and I sure cannot remember such a time!

Since the first tabloid came off the press the so-called private lives of celebrities, public figures like politicians, etc. Have be fair game and subject to exposure.

Not sure what world or period you are talking about!

Oh come on are you serious!?

Remember Liberace, JFK, etc...

I don't know where you have been but I sure have seen plenty and in regular newspapers all the way back into the 70s ( that is as far back as I could read a newspaper).

I am not going to start naming them but politicians having affairs, getting exposed, were regular fair in the tabloid and mainstream news, in North America, Europe, etc...

I can remember a few incidences where some USA congressmen got caught playing footsie in the mens public restroom and that was long before social media, even before the internet in a few cases.

Neither was Montgomery Clift, or many other gays,

Quoting Montgomery Clift is scraping the barrel. In those days, Hollywood movie stars' careers would be over if it were found that they were gay. They HAD to be discreet. Hell, Hollywood arranged marriages for them to keep up appearances.

One particular was screaming that he was straight. Yeah, sure. That airport toilet soon became a tourist attraction. There was a documentary a few years back about all the Republicans in the closet and who were exposed. Unsurprisingly they were extremely anti-gay (in public). Miss Lindsay is rumored to be part of the club.

I'm confused. The article calls h(er) an actor (male term, female would be actress), but proceeds to use the pronoun "her". If she identifies as female, then use "her" and "actress", if he identifies as male, then use "his" and "actor". Currently, it's mixing and matching.

> Nope. You’re indulging in a bit if selective memory there, sport. Liberace was never publicly “outed” in his lifetime

Think you need to go back and check things.

He was outed in the UK to the point he sued the paper and won though by that point everyone knew.

When he died and the full truth came out the paper asked " can we get a refund?"

I can give a long list of USA , Canadian politicians that have ne outed in one way or another from having affairs to being gay.

The funny thing is you trying to act like this is something modern.

Heck I can even think of a few USA presidents while still in office that got outed for having affairs and those were in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel? Why so? Clift is a perfect example. So is the big one I didn’t mention, Rock Hudson. Huge stars, no public outing, proves the point. What do media outlets these days care about anyone’s career being affected if they out them? Answer, not one jot.

Freddie Mercury never 'came out' but he certainly is a 'gay icon' and his name and image are certainly used for the 'Pride' money-making machine. While he was an excellent frontman for Queen and as a solo artist, and pretty much most of the world knew he was gay, he never 'came out' with it and no media 'outed' him either.

The worst part of it all is that his persona and image are used as a commercial gimmick. Queen 'fans' know a couple of their biggest hits but they don't know 'Bicycle', 'Radio Gaga' or other Queen nuggets. It's all a dollar bill now. And while there's nothing particularly wrong with GLBTs having their city parades, that too has become a dollar bill, commercialized. And that stinks.

If Rebel Wilson wants to 'come out', it should be on her terms when she's confortable telling the world about it and not having some media pundits doing the talking for her. That could lead to libel and it's irresponsible journalism.

At least 4 transgender haters out there. Shame.

Not exactly. Many (most?) "actresses" are called actors now, in the same manner that gender was dropped in changing from steward/stewardess to flight attendant. There is plenty of literature out there on this.
