Popular actress Emi Takei, 23, and Takahiro, 32, a singer for the pop group EXILE, on Friday made a surprise announcement that they are married. They also said that Takei is three months pregnant.

The news was released in a joint statement by their agencies.

In the statement, the couple said they had registered their marriage on Friday and that they have been blessed with a child whom they are eagerly waiting to welcome next spring.

The couple met in 2014 while filming a drama for NTV. The tabloid media reported that they started dating in April 2015, although they refused to confirm they were seeing each other at the time.

No information has been released on if there will be a formal wedding ceremony or party, nor are there any plans for a press conference.

Living your private life in public is a stupid thing to do.

Just because they do this doesn't make it news, nor our business.

I'm only clicking on this story now because I saw a story in Japanese that estimated the cost in lost work at 1 to 2 billion yen. The story I read said that as someone's wife and a mother in real life, she will no longer be cast in "pretty OL" roles or get CM work that is aimed principally at single women. It's the AKB thing all over again.

I normally don't bother with celebs, but as a barometer of how reactionary attitudes are in Japan, this is an interesting story.
