Not too many traffic accidents in Tokyo I guess.

Thanks JT for the photo of Matsukuki-san. (not)

'Took her eyes off the road for a sec' to check/send a text message?!

Why do people have to report ALL accidents to the cops? Can't they just exchange insurance info and go on their merry way? A friend of mine was in a MINOR fender bender, and it took more than two hours for the cops to come and take down all the relevant information. What a waste of time.

Do they? I have told people who hit me causing minor damage to buzz off, and they did.

I feel sorry that her accident is reported in the news with no reason other than her being a known actress. Should be barred by law.

Well, they didnt say that the accident was a fender bender just that no one was seriously injured. So it could be possible that one of the vehicles could have been immobilized. So yes they need to call someone. Also unfortunately, not everyone is so honest. They may give some info but it may be false info. In addition, yeah we may exchange info but you may not be able to pay, or you may try to blame me when i think its your fault. Police officers also have the responsibility of being official witnesses or mediators at the scene of a crime.

If you damage my car and i just tell you to "buzz off" then i lose the ability to pursue compensation. So yeah, if the damage to your vehicle is not enough to make you want compensation, sure let the person go, but if you dont want to pay for the damage to your car and you want to be sure to get compensation, i recommend calling the police.

She needs to hold a press conference and apologize for having caused trouble to her fans.

Been here for over 20+ years but have never heard of her. Is she perhaps the one who got married, had a baby and got divorced a year later?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Guess you never turned on a TV in 20 years..

Where is the photograph?

I don't understand why some people make comments like this. Are you insinuating that this very famous person is not that famous because you've never heard of her? Or are you giving us an example of how it is possible to live in a country for a very long time and still be unaware of its pop culture?

OssanAmerica: You guessed wrong.

Bogi: Nope, she just isn't really all that famous (last time on tv was 2 years ago?), hence the 3-line article without even a photo. Nice "comeback" though.

try googling her name and see if her face doesn't remind you. She was constantly all over the tv in dramas in the early mid 90s when I got here and has gone on to become a pretty big movie star. She is very pretty, and iis also one of the ones who can act. Don't know why there is no pic, but no way you haven't seen her. But whatever.

Lowly: She was famours/popular in the mid 90s? That might explain it then... My calendar says it's 2012 this year.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

No, she was on tv constantly when I fist came here is what I said. She was just starting out then. Then she went on to become a famous movie star. She has been working regularly for the last 20 yrs. I think she was in something like 6 movies in the last 4 years, still on tv, and occasionally on stage. She's a real actress. Not important though, if you are not interested.

Lowly: But I am interested. Not intrigued but... interested. I went through her Wikipee-page and all just now! Just not all that interested in her having a fender bender and that somehow becoming "news". You are clearly a fan and I'd like to apologize if I have offended you and/or your "popculture" idol. Keep those eyes on the road and stay safe!

I am not interested in celebrity fender benders and consider most celeb news to be a bore.

Not a fan of Matsuyuki, but it is always welcome to see a J actor who they allow to continue to work and who also can actually do the job. Not at all offended by u, just had free time this a.m., and was surprised by a long-timer's claim she's a unknown. Let's enjoy Japan Today in our free time!

Now she's even brought the two of us closer together. Respect!

Is she perhaps the one who got married, had a baby and got divorced a year later?

Yeah, because THAT would narrow down who she is. ..

Tongue in cheek, tmarie.

So was mine! ;)

I'm assuming you think she hasn't been on TV for the last 2 years because the Wiki page you mentioned lists her last TV drama as 2010. However, I have seen her on a lot of TV programs since then, varieties etc.

She's very famous.

She also appears in the taiga drama Taira no Kiyomori, one of the highest rated TV programs in Japan at the moment.

She is hardly a popculture star she's been on TV and in movies for quite some time, and it's pretty hard to conceive of missing her existence completely if anyone has watched been in Japan for 20 years and watched TV. Not only was she famous in the 90s she's famous and popular right now in 2012. Of course someone who HASN'T been in Japan for the past 20 years would have no idea who she is.

Seriously, you watch all that crap?! And that's the reason she is (lol) "very famous"? Okay, you win! She's very famous...

No, not much of it. But I recommend the NHK taiga dramas. They're usually pretty good and a great way to learn about Japanese history!

Still, if it's not even reported on mainstream tv (morning talk shows - I asked my wife if she'd watched anything about it) then I don't understand what this so-called "news" is doing here. Is she very famous among non-Japanese or something?

It was picked up by most of the trashy wide shows in the afternoon on terrestrial stations. Unfortunately, my wife is a regular viewer! I guess your wife was just lucky enough to miss it. I wish I had, too.

Yasuko is a classy girl! Too bad about the fender bender. I am sure the cops will go easy on her.
