Adidas just played itself. Yeezy was around 15% of their revenue, gonna lose them billions per year.

“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” the company said in a statement Tuesday. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”

Great Adidas for standing up against Ye's "hateful speech".

Now how about doing business with a regime guilty for war crimes and murdering women and journalists?

Sayonara!

Maybe I missed something but I don't think anything he said was grossly antisemitic. If he had said "White executives" excercise financial and creative control over the majority of Black artists, I doubt there would have been much controversy. His claims are either true or untrue and should be easy for the media to prove or debunk. What he said might raise some unpleasant implications and calls for change within the music industry, but that's hardly the fault of the person pointing these things out.

3 ( +15 / -12 )

What did he say? I can't find it anywhere in the article, but it's quite long, so maybe I missed it.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

It’s about time that they dropped him.

1 ( +9 / -8 )

M3M3M3: "Maybe I missed something..."

No maybes if that's what you think.

Good on Adidas. A shame they waited until the pressure was so huge, and I have no doubt they are still going to release their new line next month.

0 ( +11 / -11 )

M3M3M3: He even threatened Adidas, claiming that he could say anti-Semitic remarks or whatever else he wanted and they couldn't drop him, taunting them with, "Now what? Now what?" Boom. That's what. Time this clown gets put in his place and dropped by EVERYONE. Loving an anti-semite makes you one as well.

2 ( +12 / -10 )

Oh! They terminated their line with him. Okay, good on them. And it's going to cost them $280 million.

I guess I would just challenge you to provide us with the most antisemitic statement West has made in your opinion. Of course, don't quote it verbatim if it's too offensive, but characterise what what was said and tell us why we should be offended.

West is rambling and incoherent but if you listen to him in good faith, his claim is basically this: The music producers and executives who manage Black artists are overwhelmingly Jewish (I think he claims 90%). Because these executives don't live in Black communities and are shielded from any negative social and cultural effects of the media they sell, they have no qualms about prompting certain types of toxic 'gangster rap' which they see as the most lucrative. West thinks the Black community should have more commercial control over their own cultural output and that it would be considerably different if this was the case.

adidas said it expected to take a hit of up to 250 million euros ($246 million) to its net income this year from the decision to immediately stop production of its line of Yeezy products and stop payments to Ye and his companies

It's a shame Adidas had to wait so long to cut ties with this bigot!

Only once the Adidas stock tanked that the executives decided they needed to do something.

I hope they sue this idiot for every last penny has left, sending such people to the poorhouse is the best punishment !

Dumb and rich. Kanye West and Elon Musk should start a club.

0 ( +10 / -10 )

Most of Ye's 2 billion fortune actually comes from his shoes company - which I guess is relabellng Adidas shoes with Ye. However, Ye is only a small part of Adidas' total business. Divorces happen - just ask Kim Kardashian.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

TokyoJoe "... 15% ..."

According to [Bloomberg 25 October 2022] :

"The Adidas decision follows weeks of deliberations inside the company, which over the past decade has built the Yeezy line — together with Ye — into a brand that’s accounted for as much as 8 percent of Adidas’s total sales, according to several estimates from Wall Street analysts."

The achieving of great wealth turns some people into megalomaniacs who believe the world is eager to know their every thought and belief, no matter how demented. As soon as they see a microphone pointed towards them, they begin dissembling nonsense. And Twitter excels as a platform for anyone to make an ass of themself in front of the whole world.

Bipolar and anti-Semitic.

However, some have supported the rapper, with an antisemitic hate group in the US reportedly unfurling a banner reading "Kanye is right about the Jews" on a Los Angeles flyover and making the Nazi salute.

"Kanye is right about the Jews" - white supremacist group 'Goyim Defense League' headed up by Jon Minadeo II dropped vile banner on the busy 110 highway in Los Angeles today.

Minadeo is a well known neo-Nazi that was recently arrested while visiting Auschwitz. pic.twitter.com/BCQqRHTpr7

It's ignorant and hateful statements and lies like what Ye has said that led to the Holocaust in the first place. Hate speech always leads to violence in the end, and Ye was talking this 'Jewish conspiracy/Jews run everything' bullcrap. That attitude led to Kristallnacht and the deaths of 6 million Jews. There's no justifying or defending it.

And this bipolar disorder is no excuse. There are plenty of people with that disorder who DON'T harbor such bigoted feelings. An antisemite is a Jew-hater is an idiot. Plain and simple.

Media outlets are not repeating what he said as some of it was especially abhorrent. If you really want to know what he said, although it has been deleted on social media, you can find his posts. It is horribly anti-semetic.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

That he is a raving anti-Semite is beyond doubt and his mental illness is not an acceptable crutch.

Adidas and Gap dropped him. His agent and the new lawyer fired him. His record label dropped him and his downloads have fallen off a cliff.

And he more than deserves it. Anyone saying similar things on this site about people of any ethnic background would be immediately de-platformed.

So let’s stop making excuses for him and hold him to account as we would a mere mortal.

Ye? Nah.

Articles in official newspapers never repeat slurs and openly racist remarks, you will have to go to less "official" sources to find them.

M3M3M3: "I guess I would just challenge you to provide us with the most antisemitic statement West has made in your opinion"

Not really sure you need to be challenged more. I like how you try to water down what he said about black people being owned by Jews (even though the black people are Jews, he claims later), and that Disney is owned by Jews -- which is not an attempt to say black people should do more, but that they are owned, using age-old racist tropes about Jews and money.

"West thinks the Black community should have more commercial control over their own cultural output and that it would be considerably different if this was the case."

Hang on... I thought he also said "slavery was a choice".

And now, why should people be offended? A number of reasons. When interviewed by Pierce Morgan Kanye said he KNEW he was being racist, and that is why he said it. He said "I was fighting fire with fire" and said "hurt people hurt people", KNOWING he wanted to hurt people, and be offensive. White nationalists, his new and unlikely fans, are saying "What Kanye said about the Jews is right!" and pumping their fists in solidarity with him. So, I guess in that respect, if you think getting white supremacists on your side against Jews, then maybe Kanye is a champion and well-meaning person? His words have consequences beyond just him rightfully getting canned here, and he is NOT the victim.

You are correct the man is a bumbling fool and incoherent, but don't try to explain away what he is saying because of that, especially when he's doubled down and says he knows he's being offensive and doing it solely for that sake.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Adidas did the right thing.

The one thing I don't get is why "white supremacy" is synonymous with antisemitism. Aren't Jewish people white?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Like a hot potato. Talk smack, get smacked. I thought the right liked that kind of thing.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

The media are really going to town on Kanye. Wonder why the media are taking this so seriously . . .

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Adidas probably saw a spike in sales for the Yeezy brand so held out for as long as possible to ride the controversy and the profit that came along with it.

Judaism is a religion. Hence ALL religions should be off limits to criticize. Remember this!

Several weeks ago I posted a comment to the effect that “hero worship for dysfunctional people has got to stop” … not surprisingly, I was clobbered with negativity.

Believe it or not this guy can sell his shoes independently because he has a huge following and still make money. That is not going to stop them from buying his clothing line. If anyone can call years back when designer jeans were the in thing but what put those top designers out of business was baggy clothing that kids started to purchase because it was an in thing that guys released from prison was wearing. Sagging came from the prisons they had so many guys going into the prison they ran out of correct sizes to give the guys so some prisoners were issued pant sizes that was 3 times their waste and once they came out they continued. Nothing is going to stop Ye from selling his clothing line he has a huge following and he will still sell his music. Its going to be tough to break him!!! Unless he gets Tupac or Biggies demise!

He has learned the hard way that you cannot be a slave to two masters.

There's no excusing such attitudes. There's no justifying offing 6 million people.

Judaism, like most religions transcends race and color. There are plenty of Black Jews just like there are White Muslims, and so on. Remember the Bosnia War- those were White Muslims that were being exterminated. And other religions embrace and have adherents of all colors.
