Ai Haruna, Angelica Michibata solve Shibuya mysteries

Transsexual "talent" Ai Haruna and model Angelica Michibata participated in “Real Mystery Solving,” a promotional event for the hit movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” on Sunday at Shibuya’s club Camelot. During the event, where guests took part in "mystery solving" around Shibuya, Michibata, 25, appeared dressed in a sexy outfit resembling that of Angelica (played by Penelope Cruz), Jack Sparrow’s new flirt in the movie.

“I’m so excited and happy that the role of Angelica was played by Penelope Cruz,” said Michibata of the coincidence that she and Cruz’s character share the same name.

Meanwhile, Haruna, 38, interrupted the event by making a sudden surprise appearance. “I am ‘AIgelica,’ Jack’s ex-girlfriend,” she told the audience with a laugh and added that she feels "like a real mermaid," referring to the movie’s plot.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is currently in theaters in Japan.

Japan amazes me with new levels of childishness every day.

Just reading the article makes you lose about 10 IQ points.

Amazing!! Shibuya, an area that is so bright with so many dim-wits like these there.

If you're that way inclined - good luck to ya! Different strokes for different folks! Personally, I find him kimoi... but he is probably the best of a bad bunch of trannies that have taken Japan by storm.

There are others???

Yeah, a movie promotion should be Serious Business. Why didn't they invite respected academics to form a roundtable discussion on the deep themes of the "Pirates" series?

Smorkian -- please, you need to do way better than that. A woman claiming a relationship with an actress in a movie simply because they have the same first name, is clearly not worth defending. Nor is a transsexual claiming to be the character. Sure, movie promotions by their nature are pure entertainment. But does everything here have to be written for/aimed at the AKB48 crowd? Rush to Japan's defense at every occasion. We expect nothing less. But defending this kind of childish nonsense damages your credibility when it comes to serious topics.

No. I just think it shows how childish Japanese people are. Some woman excited because she has the same name as a character in a movie; and some tranny dressed like an idiot, claiming to feel like a mermaid.

It would be fine if the people saying this garbage were 8 years old instead of 25 and 38.

Yeah, a movie promotion should be Serious Business.

I don't know why Japanese people have the need to have some nobody Japanese "star", who has nothing to do with the film, tell them to go and see it. Forgive me for thinking that movie promotion should be done by the stars of the movie...

These two should be the next respective PM`s.

MrDog, they are the voiceovers for the movie, thats why they promote it, its not like they have no relation with the movie at all. :)

So much hate towards Ai just because she is a transvestite, no idea why. She is a great personality and doesnt hurt a fly. Michibata however can s*d right off with her nose and attitude, really cant stand her miss uppity character.

cant wait to see this movie btw. Depp rocks as Jack.

Um, sure... I'm sorry I don't get all worked up over Japan's Problems that are clearly evident in a movie promotion blurb in the entertainment section of JT. Mea culpa.

Rush to Japan's defense at every occasion.

Only when the criticism is broad and facile.

@MrDog

No. I just think it shows how childish Japanese people are.

No, it shows how childish THIS PERSON is. Not Taro Tanaka. She's a talent and an airhead, so what?

The one on the right looks sexier.

@papa

I was talking in general.

I also don't understand why people need to know who is doing the voice-work on dubbed films. Who cares?! They're all over the top and rubbish anyway.

Sadly, some foreigners feel that Japanese girls are childish and immature and dress too cute for their age. But why not have fun and why not aesthetically? Why is this kind of childishness deemed negative in our society. After all, Picasso said, it took him four years to paint Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child. Maybe the problem with American society is that sometimes it is not childish enough. Perhaps we are losing our imagination and our ability to enjoy things that are awesome in their simplicity. In East Asian countries, you find cute animated characters everywhere on dresses, t-shirts, handbags etc. And this is not limited to children, adults and teenagers who enjoy this aesthetic as well. The Japanese word kawaii is used to describe this. In the United States, a lot of clothing is somewhat dispassionate, boring, mono-colored and only functionality oriented. Of course, it's cultural and it has a lot to do with personal preference. So Aichan keep wearing those cute dresses. Who cares what other people say and who cares if she is a transsexual. Those people that discriminate, shame on you because people that discriminate out of ignorance and selfishness don't think about how it would make other people feel. I would never date any guy that discriminates toward a individual or group of people, especially on the basis of sex/race/social class. It shows no respect or class.

Real Mystery Solving?

The only real mystery is why Japanese people don't get sick of "entertainment" that would belittle a three-year-old.

“I am ‘AIgelica,’ Jack’s ex-girlfriend,” she told the audience with a laugh

Oh quick, somebody pass me a staple gun. My sides have just split.

You wanna be anorexic? Look, I've never met you - but I'll have a guess you have a figure that would appeal to 90 percent of (straight) men over Michibata... Give me a real woman with curves - not an anorexic one or a wannabe-woman like that tranny!

Ai-chan is wearing a cute outfit..

Which has no connection whatsoever to the product she's promoting. In a similar way to the fact that transsexuals aren't big in pirate films.

LOL, Mickey Mouse was born around 1928 (in the USA) and can still be found across the USA on young and old. Think about it and I'm sure you'll think of dozens more cute animated characters found across the USA on ... YOU NAME IT

The entertainment industry has always pandered to the whims of societies the world over. Shallowness is not limited to the Japanese people.
