Didn't they already try this with SDN48? And didn't that more or less bomb?

All the more reason why Perfume is the best!!!

Ripe? Ripe for what? Hmmmm the wording and images in Japanese ads are very well all directed to 1 thing..

I turn the sound off when they "sing" but there's some real 'talent' to look at on the stage sometimes.

The putative appointee—dubbed “juku-doru” (“Ripe Idol”) by Japan’s tabloid press—will have a limited run with the group and will be signed only until the summer.

I would have used "mature" rather than "ripe". Because 1) it makes more sense; and 2) I know what I'm doing...

Anyway, who want's to see AKB members over 30????

I think they've forgotten who their target market is.

Baba48 here we come ...

Huge following of Japanese businessmen?

More like otaku daigakusei. I don't know any business colleagues, and I know quite a few, who's ever shown any interest in them whatsoever. Introducing women in the 30s might change that... but I don't think they'd become diehard fans. More likely they'd drool over the "idol" but not care about the music.

I liked Max when I, and they, were younger. Can't recall any of their songs though :-)

Also, the lead singer of Princess Princess looked very nice during their comeback last year (?). Fine example of Jukujo (熟女).

@ Bondsan LOL, or they could hire over-50 members and call the group "U2B48'

AKB48 is raucous but the Momoiro Clover Z is rollicking!

Clearly the AKB brand is waning. Most of the originals have graduated and they are struggling to stay relevant. Onto the next ultra-cutsie "singing" sensation.

Obasans gyrating in miniskirt

Yawn.

um. as for the part against the akb48 commercial for it "encouraging homosexuality", I was told by Japanese friends that the Japanese weren't uptight about sexuality and homosexuality like the west is because they are a secular society that never experienced the influence of Christianity.... Was I lied to? Because apparently the conservative Japanese also got this resentment from somewhere.

If they want mature applicants, they're going to have to accept applicants over 50.

Aha the use of the word 'mature' in this context is hilarious

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Well, they have already used old men... OJS48

Only one?? Pity. I've seen a lot of Japanese women over 30, over 40, even over 50 who may not be the juvenile 'cuties' that populate AKB48, but they're a lot more attractive to this mature male.

If I may - a group of women not so long ago at our kindergarten got up and did an AKB48 number in the tartan mini costumes as part of the kids graduation show, and they looked fantastic!

Sadly, I was put in the group that had to dress up like minnie mouse complete with giant sparkly pink bow tie and sing the M-I-C-K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E song :(

I quite fancied myself in the AKB48 group. But ever the "rebel" I had on a Little Black Dress under my bow tie and plastic skirt made from a trash can liner and paper polka dots!

@NathalieB

Photos or it never happened?

Eww, no thanks. People don't want to see AKB48 with obaa-san's.

They want pretty young thangs.

Reformed - oh it happened all right! But I can`t post photos on here. You will just have to use your imagination :) !
