AKB48 looking ahead to 'Kohaku Uta Gassen' on New Year's Eve

Mega-popular Japanese idol group AKB48 has been appointed a "Kohaku Cheer Group" for the 63th "Kohaku Uta Gassen" (Red and White Singing Contest), NHK's extravaganza which is broadcast every New Year's Eve.

AKB48 is virtually assured of being invited to take part in the show, having already appeared on four occasions. Last year, the entire contingent of AKB48 appeared, performing a “Special AKB48 Mix.”

AKB48 "leader" Yuko Oshima and celebrity Terry Ito will work together to promote "Kohaku" on various TV programs.

AKB48 better be in the Kouhaku.

Because if not, they will be crying on TV, like that time they didn't win some lame music prize.

And that will be irritating and embarassing, watching grown girls bawl their eyes out like toddlers whose toy was taken away.

:)

Or, no, heck, bring it on!

Another reason (as if one needed another! SMAP anyone?) to watch kickboxing instead. I don't know which is more painful, listening to SMAP "sing", watching AKB (Ako Kasu Boke) pander to a bunch of 24 year old virgin shut-ins, or looking at Wada Akiko's face. All of them lead me to doubt the existence of an omnipotent creator.....

@ Graham DeShazo Wada Akiko is a living legend of Japan and the fact she is not popular for her looks is even more reason why I respect and appreciate her musical passion.

Kohaku without AKB48 is like breakfast without orange juice.

Looking forward to another great lip-syncing performance by AKB, SMAP, Arashi, Perfume, and many more.

Kohaku without AKB48 is like breakfast without french toast with maple syrup.

This show is one more reason to go out on New Year's Eve, get bladdered and wind up plums-deep in a popsy.
