AKB48 singer Yuko Oshima launches new Wonda canned coffee ad campaign

AKB48 singer Yuko Oshima is appearing in the first of a new series of TV commercials for Asahi Soft Drinks' Wonda Coffee Morning Shot series. AKB48 singers have been doing ads for Wonda for the past three years.

In the new commercial, which began airing on Wednesday, Oshima, 24, plays an office lady who chats with a colleague outside the elevator at their office before starting work. They discuss how drinking the canned coffee will give them energy to get through the day. The new series of ads will use the office environment for its setting with different AKB48 singers alternating in each ad.

Last year, about 90 members of the mega-popular group appeared the Wonda Coffee Morning Shot commercials.

I am sick to death of AKB this, AKB that. What is this endless obsession in Japan with teenage girls and this bubblegum band. Do you have no pride at all? An entire nation obsessed with teenage girls is silly and embarrassing. Give it a rest already.

the integration of entertainment and commercial advertising must go beyond ads.. with social media reshaping the landscape of advertising and agency income from media buying... entertainment and entertainers are HIGHLY underutilized as mediums and media that not only target the lifestyle of the consumer.. but makes fans who do more than just consume coffee.. it becomes part of the psyche.. the values.. the chosen lifestyle of the fan. Fans also promote and through word of mouth.. a brand can become insanely popular overnight. Putting a JPOP star in a commercial is nothing new or that cool.. but creating a multi dimensional strategy can enhance the career of the artists and if done properly.. grow and sustain sales for the associated product.

AKB48 is the logical progression of the Pokemon generation. "Gotta collect 'em all"!!

clear files, badges, newspapers, anything and everything marketed for people who obsess about the collecting of things. but it's like Moomin said,

"Always better to be a collector than an owner."

I dunno, it seems to make all those "middle-aged men" happy to have this (albeit) odd outlet for their happiness in their lives. I think that it represents an eternal sadness that their lives haven't turned out the way they wanted. Empty, forlorn and largely bereft of satisfying intimate relationships, they pine for the freedom of their youth and that is what this "band" represents to them.

The true Final Fantasy.

I don't really agree with it, I think it is kinda creepy to say the least but at least it keeps those individuals focused in their obsession rather than ACTUALLY being obsessed and stalking pre-teen and teen girls. Perhaps that is a good thing?

Tagline: "It's a wonda an AKB48 gal can keep her clothes on!"

crustpunker, I do hope you are right about distractions for their obsessive followers, but I think this just encourages this kind of thinking. The people of Japan need to wake up, grow up and start dealing with reality instead of retreating into childhood type obsessions, endless cute this or that or fantasy worlds. Reality in Japan is going to get a hell of a lot harsher as the middle class declines and Abe-nomics wrecks things. So enough with the AKB this and that already. Grow up Japan!

J ads are often really silly. But Yuko brings her great lookas and charm to this and makes me want to drink more coffee.

Thank you for your unbiased opinion, AKBfan...

What an awful canned product--and the coffee's not so great either.

Those girls must be sooo glad they didn't have to stoop to doing porn to make a living. At least for now, anyhow...

AKB are awesome, and I love them. More commercials I say. Haven't seen this latest one for Wonda but the previous one was sublime with the lovely ladies popping out of the cans. Ikuyo. Kyoumo. Harikitte. Kamon!

As for the beverage, I drank it close to every day or thereabouts for the second half of last year. Tastes like crap but there's a fair bit of zing in there. Have laid off it this month and am sluggish, like a wet sponge.

I really wonda why people are so vehemently against AKB. If you don't like them, fine, but why go on and on about how much you hate them, or think they're jail-bait, or whatever other anti-AKB rant you are going with at the time.

Personally they aren't my taste of music, but do I hate them? No, I just accept that millions DO like their music/performances/whatever... I don't like Lady Gaga's music, but I don't call her a porn star or whatever.

Jeez, live and let live guys and gals.
