Akina Minami wins Beauty Eye Award

Twenty-one-year-old bikini and fashion model Akina Minami is this year's winner of the Beauty Eye Award. The finalists were judged on a single wink with the grand prize going to Akkina, as Minami is popularly known.

"I'm surrounded by beautiful-eyed people, so I'm delighted to have been chosen. I'm not sure I really deserve this," she gushed. "I think looking people in the eye is a really important part of communication."

When asked about her eye-care routine, she recommended an eyeball massage before sleep every night and regular eyedrops. "Eye makeup hardens over time, which means I have a tendency to get droopy eyes. I've been using lots of glitter recently to try to make my eyes sparkle," she revealed.

As part of the award Minami will appear in an advertisement for a Shinagawa Lasik laser eye surgery clinic, although she herself professes to favor contact lenses.

Well, it's like they say, "Beauty is in the eye..."

"What's next Beauty ears and nails and belly buttons?"

I nominate Mao Asada for Beauty Ears, Kumi Koda for Beauty Nails and Erika Sawajiri for Beauty Bellybutton.

Har!

And who is the man with the most beautiful eyes? I think the reformed yakuza Shindo has more beautiful eyes than her.

First a legs beauty, now an eye beauty. Soon we'll have a whole beautiful bride of Frankenstein.

Nice eyes, but why the pajamas?

Wow. Any prize won based on a single wink has got to be truly important/newsworthy. Hats off to her. Ranks right up there with the two J-scientists winning the Nobel last week.

She's got great teeth as well as great eyes, and she looks great in a bikini too.

Eye for an eye. I wonder how they judged her

She is right, she really doesn't deserve it. She is smarter than I thought!

This picture does not do her justice. "GoogleImage" her and you will see.

I've seen better eyes. She was lucky to get the award.

How do you determine who has the most beautiful eyes?

I think she looks pretty good. Can't understand all the complainers. This type of news is the only reason I visit Japan Today as I get my serious Japan news fix from other sources.

I think she wears her contacts beautifully

Surrounding by beautiful eyed people?!? Lol!!

She is a good looking young woman & if a woman has attractive eyes that will catch the eyes of others be they make of female.

So she has a good idea or two about HER eyes which also means her appearance.

I think a photo of Minami in a bikini with her eyes closed would serve us better.

Akina Minami has the most beautiful eyes in Japan and she deserved everything that she got. I am glad that she got an award for having beautiful eyes.

I thought she looks so good in a bikini that she won some award for the ease of looking at her...

What a waste of a photo.

I don't know what everyone sees in her

"Bancha mo debana"

Bestist Winkist?

You are better off than me, The 758! I don't even know who she is!

I don't know what everyone sees in her

The utter inanity of each sentence in this "story" beggars belief, even by Japan Today standards. I realize it's part of the ongoing "Best (blank)ist" meme (Best Eyeist, BTW), but single-wink showdowns and nightly eyeball massages are really just pushing the envelope off the precipice.

glitter??? isn't that a form of steroids?

"As part of the award Minami will appear in an advertisement for a Shinagawa Lasik laser eye surgery clinic, although she herself professes to favor contact lenses."

I can't believe she won with such a controversial political opinion!
