Singer-songwriter Angela Aki, 36, says she will be putting her musical career on hold for an indefinite period from next autumn. Aki made the announcement on her official home page on Friday.
Next March, Aki will release her best-of album "Tapestry of Songs - The Best of Angela Aki." She will then tour from April to August throughout Japan promoting her album. Following the end of the tour, Aki said she plans to go to the U.S. with her husband and son and attend a music school to receive professional training.
Aki said, "Next year I will be turning 37. Despite the fact that I went to a university in Washington, DC, to study international politics when I was 18, this will be my first time at an official school of music for professional study. In order to make my Broadway Musical Project a success, and moreover, to make my true childhood dream a reality, I had to make this very big decision."
Aki added: "I feel this is my last chance. I really don't want to leave these dreams of mine unfulfilled, or to put myself in a situation of feeling like there is unfinished business in my life."

Japan will miss a real talent like you. Your voice is beautiful, not auto-tuned or nasal like so many here. Your lyrics have real value, they're not sex-focused like so many here are, and you play the piano so well. Good luck! May you reach your dream.

She should just keep putting out songs as they inspire her. She'll be surrounded by and immersed in music while she's there.

Very good decision on her part...no one should let their dreams fade away due to inaction.
As for her musical talents, I always liked listening to her songs.

Good for her if she wants to chase her dreams to better herself instead of being dictated to by her agency and told to say this and that. Refreshing to hear about someone who can actually sing, write songs and play a musical instrument. Tarentos like AKB48 and Perfume - are you listening?
