Anna Tsuchiya: 'No one could kill someone who looked like me'

Director Kinji Fukasaku's cult 2000 film "Battle Royale" has been rereleased in 3D, with Anna Tsuchiya, 26, singing the theme song. Tsuchiya's song is titled "Checkmate mash up Anty the kunoichi Volta Masters," and was released on Nov 17.

Joined by one of the movie's stars, Taro Yamamoto, Tsuchiya appeared at a screening this week, wearing a black miniskirt resembling one of the junior high school students from the movie who get dragged into a survival game. "I think I've created a song that reflects the raw tension of the movie," she said.

When asked by a journalist what she would do in the event of a real face-off, she answered, "No one would shoot a girl as cute as me." Of her own high school days, she said, "I just hated it and would constantly think of ways to get out of going. Unfortunately, my mom was the chairwoman of the PTA, so I used to get busted immediately."

With all the crazy people out there, challenging them would be the last thing I'd do.

Catchy song title.

“No one would shoot a girl as cute as me.”

Well, no one could. Relax Japan's gun laws right now! If not for that statement then for your incomprehensible song title. By the way, I personally find you repulsive.

wow, i've heard some stupid quotes in my life time, but this one takes the cake, famous last words

Stoker - Har!

Shes a great actress and ditto entertainer, very funny and beautiful as well.

This chick says plenty of stupid things. Yamamoto then asked her if she wouldn't be easy to shoot as she stands out, and Anna said that she would turn (?) into something not human or a dog. Then by barking the other person wouldn't shoot her. I would. Relax Japan's gun laws please.

My god those heels look painful!

Is it my eyes or is she all out of proportion?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She actually thinks that she is that beautiful!!! Come on!! Who is she trying to kid? Although she is not ugly, I am sure there are many many more people in the world that will make her look like an ordinary girl in an expensive dress trying to act like she is a hit when in reality she is just another fish in the sea. Hahahahahhaha....

“No one would shoot a girl as cute as me.”

guys shoot bunnies all the time.

Can anyone translate that song title for me?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She is looking for trouble there.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

her eyes are too far apart, have that rabbit look. Not ugly but no raging beauty either.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Below-average looks. I know for a fact she can't sing to save her life, and I doubt she can act to save it either. In any case, mixed-race parents would be crazy not to encourage their kids into show-biz here with this twit as a perfect example of how all you need to be is "Half".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hosefella - all you need to be is "Half"

What is 'half'?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Battle Royale = Classic, Memorable, Great movie.

Anna Tsuchiya = I had to look her up to even find out who she was. How is she a model? Why? Because she is "half?"

Isn't the theme song of the movie (in 2000 anyways) performed by Dragon Ash? Did they take their song out?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She's joking you bone heads. She is down to earth and out of the typical tarento box. She's a rags to ritches hard working singer/ actress and a good mom.

wearing a black miniskirt resembling one of the junior high school students from the movie who get dragged into a survival game.

Did I see a different movie? I don't recall any of the girls wearing any skirts other than those of their school uniforms. And those were longer and khaki.

Not crazy about her singing, but I like her acting.

Just googled this chippie. She has more hair styles and looks than your ordinary women. Usually does not show leg either, and the picture here shows why. Great hair and face model though.

@porter, totally agree... people should take things with a grain of salt.

Some people are never happy. You guys complain about the actresses saying they all look the same...and then you complain about all the other ones saying they look different.

She looks thinner than Victoria Beckham, yeuchh. Oh, and she sounds about as intelligent too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why do these journalists ask such stupid questions?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Battle Royale was a typical example of the trash movies that come out of Japan. What on earth do they hope to accomplish it by releasing it in 3D? It's 'classic' solely because of the controversy it generated, such as with the scene where a hacked off head is filled with dynamite and thrown into a room to kill some other boys. The director's response when asked why it was so excessively violent and involved the murder of children? "I was expressing the theme of brotherhood, and how we should work together" -- some utter garbage like that.

“No one would shoot a girl as cute as me.”

With a gun, or...?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She looks like a Romulan or perhaps a Klingon from the original series of Star Trek. Definitely a dominatrix type. Enslave me, Anna !

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i wouldnt say shes a real beauty, definitely not enough of a beauty to be able to pull off a comment like that. however she has a very tough-cute look and an outspoken personality that has won her legions of adoring female fans and a lucrative contract with shiseido cosmetics. guys tend to find her 'dasai' and 'kittanai' though. and i dont really get why shes still trying to pull off this whole bad rocker image and then try make herself look like a homemaker at the same time.

Now i get it, Anna ia the one at the left !! Geez, for a while I thought we are talking about the one to the right !! silly me..........

Battle Royale, biggest cult classic of the decade!

By looking through all the entertainement articles of the blog, it seems like all the comments from the jstars are particularly uncommon and completely stupid, but what makes me doubt now is not those stars but more the journalist, did the Anna Tsuchiya, completely careless Anna that we know say something like "someone as cute as me " ? No really i doubt here, it feels like the journalist wrote as a quote the first thing that you think when see this photo, what a coincidence

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's a really dumb quote, but whatever. I couldn't sit through Battle Royale, not because I thought it was bad, but because it was actually TOO MUCH for me. The manga was easier to handle somehow.

If Battle Royale is such a bad film, why is Hollywood trying to do an American remake? They will fail at it just like they did with "Ringo" (and a 1/2 dozen other J-horror films) and "Shall We Dance" and "The Seven Samurai", but the point is, Hollywood copies good ideas, even if they don't get the right. Anna would have fit right in in the cast of the movie ... as one of the trio of tough girls.

On second thoughts, that Japanese quote is more like "no-one would shoot a girl who looks like me", so implying cute isn't that far off the mark.

You answered your own question.

BoratLikeBarry-

that Japanese quote is more like "no-one would shoot a girl who looks like me", so implying cute isn't that far off the mark

and she said that they wouldn't mess with me.. does that sound like she was implying her cuteness?? i don't think it sounds like she was implying the word cute to native japanese speakers at least (and i am a native japanese speaker by the way).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't want to kill someone who looks like her...

and she said that they wouldn't mess with me.. does that sound like she was implying her cuteness?? i don't think it sounds like she was implying the word cute to native japanese speakers at least (and i am a native japanese speaker by the way).

Her saying 見た目 is where the implication comes from - it was like "they wouldn't mess with somebody who looks like me". I think it's a fair assumption to make that she was implying she is cute.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

in any case, she was joking anyways... everyone there laughed after her comments.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, I think she's been a bit harshly done by considering it was just a jokey comment!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She is cute - but the song sucks.

Hollywood does not copy stories based on the excellence of their narrative!

They copy stories based on the marketability of the subject matter and the value of the title, which can become a world-famous brand if it is backed up by a touring musical (Chicago) or a series of books (James Bond, Harry Potter).

This is why we will never become H'wood executives. Because we keep saying, "don't they have any original ideas?", which means we are thinking of the films in terms of narrative excellence and originality. They just sit through previews of films thinking, what are we going to put into the TV ads?...Is this movie conducive to Happy Meals?...What's the potential for toy-related merchandise?...Is there a cool new watch that kids will buy?... They are thinking about HOW TO SELL IT TO US, not whether it's any good...

Anna is a cool chick , ive met her, shes not a typical air head idol....she would have said it with sarcasm and a cheeky grin
