Anna Tsuchiya wins 'Fur of the Year' award

Model and singer Anna Tsuchiya, 28, is the winner of "The 8th FUR OF THE YEAR" award, which is given by the Japan Fur Association to the celebrity whose image best matches fur.

The association said Tsuchiya was chosen because of her “open-minded personality and frank fashion sense.” Tsuchiya was also given an opportunity to design an original fur coat.

At the award ceremony this week, Tsuchiya showed her mink coat designed by both herself and her husband, stylist Yamato Kikuchi. “I focused on quality. My husband knows what I like, so we completed the designing pretty quickly,” she said. “It was his idea to put a wire in the collar so that it's easy to change the shape according to different hairstyles."

Past winners of the Fur of the Year award include Aya Ueto, Meisa Kuroki, Maki Tamaru and Miki Mizuno.

Fur is beautiful and elegant. I thought these days we were SUPPOSED to use more natural products instead of synthetics... as long as the animals being used for fur aren't endangered species, I don't see the problem. Just another renewable resource.

Yeah, probably wouldn't be so 'beautiful and elegant' if you had to go out and murder this animal for yourself though right? Because THAT would be barbaric?

And anyone who insists that animals are 'Just another natural resource' and not the intelligent sentient beings that are, and subsequently is comfortable with their slaughter, seems like a very sociopathic uneducated individual to me.

Wait, isn’t this the country that treats their pets better than they treat their children? I'm missing something here!

So she's gone for the empty-headed nouveau riche look. Suits her.

We don't live in the Stone Age yet our behavior seems to indicate we do.

At least in the Stone Age the cavemen ate the animals they wore.

Donald Trump must be reeling with envy. I believe he was in the running, no? With that thing he wears on his head.

Raising helpless animals for their fur seems barbaric. We don't live in the Stone Age yet our behavior seems to indicate we do.

Very disgusting. Are Japanese women still uncivilized?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Fur is for animals.

People are living creatures just like other animals.

I like anna but i wish she hadn't gotten involved in this for the sake of our furry friends.

Some of our furry friends would just assume to eat you as any other tasty prey. Ever hung out with a grizzly bear? Unnecessary cruelty is one thing. Pretending that nature - of which we are all a part - is a clean sanitized world in which there is no death is just a fantasy of the mind.

There is no need for fur. We live in the 21st century, where we can synthesize materials that are a lot more efficient in insulating body than fur....we're just killing animals for needless vanity which is just plain stupid.

Let's be clear about something. There were anti-fur campaigns before PETA appeared on the scene.

I think I'm going to buy a thick fur hat.

If I could see how each of them look with no fur at all, that would be nice too.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Dunno who is handing out the minus points today, but bad fur day for you?

0 ( +5 / -5 )

I don't support exotic furs at all, but there is nothing wrong with domestic fur like rabbit.

BTW, that headline gave me a tongue-in-check chuckle.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

She looks great in that but the color choice could be better.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Er, sorry, "Fur is fur animals"... mmm, that sounds better! :8)

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Fur is for animals.

I've seen better furs than hers. But, hers is nice, and warm I presume.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Well, I think we can safely assume that she is not a member of PETA .-)

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I'm confused, Tatsu. What crime was committed?

3 ( +4 / -2 )

Wow... Are they serious? Sounds like a joke! I can't help but think she should be embarrassed for influencing others to commit the same crime and I also feel this article shouldn't glorify her for winning that dumb award as If it was something to be proud of. What a shame!

I'm not against fur or leather clothes...but I'm not a fan that she chose mink. You can't use mink for anything but their coat. Why not a very stylish cow hide leather or lamb skin coat? They're great.

Well said Cleo, smith, tmarie, Marilita. Sadly, even global warming won't stop these idiots - here in Hong Kong temp's are hovering around 20 which means it's time to get the dead animals out of storage cos it's so cold. Wonder what would happen if Japanese women realised that most of those "meaningless fur trimmings" (nice one, Cleo) were kawaii cats and bunnies from China...

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

i'm sure she'll look great with no fur at all

Looks like a flea-bitten garage sale remnant.

If you are going to wear fur, than wear fur !

Disgusting. There is no reason in this day and age to kill an animal for its fur.

Hope she wins the bucket or red paint award later in the day.

Still better than Lady Gaga's raw animal meat dress.

Here is the other fur dress.

http://www.tokyohive.com/2012/11/tsuchiya-anna-receives-the-fur-of-the-year/

She said “With fur, how it feels is important. It makes me happy when fur feels good on bare skin.”

Grosses me out! Wearing skin over your skin makes you happy and it feels good?

I love her as a singer and her songs like "Brave vibration" and "Believe in Love" proved me that she's worthy of my attention. Unfortunately her "frank fashion sense" doesn't matches her singing talent.

I thought we were banning furs for the love of animals??? Why is Japan once again giving awards to this things, it's embarrassing.

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

I'd like to see all five of their furs at once (Aya, Meisa, Maki, Miki, and Anna), then decide which I like best!

1 ( +5 / -4 )

the celebrity whose image best matches fur.

Fur is for cavemen and airheads. She doesn't look like a neanderthal. Must be the other kind.

Winter is a depressing time in Japan, with all the shops and boutiques full of meaningless fur trimmings that provide not an apworth of warmth but ensure the torture and death of millions of animals unlucky enough to have been born with a beautiful coat.

That's odd, I thought most younger Japanese women went Brazilian....

You couldn't be more wrong.

6 ( +7 / -2 )

First of all, Geoff Gillespie, in "the rest of the world" there are both pro and anti-fur factions, as there are in Japan. So your logic is faulty from the get-to. But let's assume that your unfounded assumption (that "the rest of the world" is overwhelmingly anti-fur) is true. Even so, might does not make right, and large numbers of people can be just as wrong as a few. Time to put aside the PETA prop and start thinking for yourself.

Japan 'rewards' this dumb animal

What is Japan? Do you mean the small number of people that comprise the self-interested Japan Fur Association.......?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

That's odd, I thought most younger Japanese women went Brazilian....

Anyway, I guess PETA and their paint-splashing techniques have yet to make much of an impression over here yet.....

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

So while the rest of the world is decrying the use of animal fur, Japan 'rewards' this dumb animal for wearing another dumb animal around her shoulders? Ahead of the curve as usual......

With a peach fuzz liner

is that a sheared beaver coat ?
