Quite fitting really. More tawdry theatrics for one of the longest running soap operas out there.

@Wallace. If you live in Japan, it's not your problem, is it?

Is it “God forsake the king”?

Is it “God forsake the king”?

How about a certain number by the SEX PISTOLS instead? Pomp and circumstance, Phooey!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

It includes words adapted from Psalm 98

It's a long time since I tread any Psalms but I can't recall one about a deeply unpopular, unelected billionaire spending 120m pounds on a party to inherit a gold hat and some castles, while his "subjects" eat at food banks and die of cold in winter.

The only psalm that matters is Psalm 69.

Everyone on this forum can express their opinion. Besides It is my birth country and home to many of my family.

Many people are suffering hardships with the rising cost of living and paying for their energy. People have turned off their heating because they can heat or eat.

The cost of the queen's funeral was more than £1 billion and the cost of this will be more than another #1 billion. Food banks closing down because they can't pay their energy bills.

I believe that the cost of the late Queen Elizabeth 2 funeral was 11 million. King Charles 3 has already indicated that his Coronation will be scaled down, to reflect hard times.

Make the coronation PPV. If they are as popular as some people say then they could make it pay for itself.

The British royal family have had more scandals than I can remember, some involving truly atrocious behaviour. Whatever goodwill they once had, for most British subjects (at home or overseas) this is long gone.

More wasted tax-payers money.

Interesting to see that the commentator has the time to evaluate the personal opinion of a good few million people.

People usually express their opinion based on observation and evidence. Opinion polls indicate that unlike before, the political attitudes of younger people are not becoming more conservative as they get older. The number of young people with a positive attitude towards the British royal family now is half of what it was in 2015 ( 60% vs. 30%).

Allen Harrison...

I believe that the cost of the late Queen Elizabeth 2 funeral was 11 million.

No, I think 11 million was the amount the Queen had to pay to keep Prince Andrew from pedo charges in a US court.

Yes, it was the cost of the funeral. But anyway, back on topic, I think that Andrew Lloyd Webber is a good choice.

The House of Windsor is a global recognisable brand, worth its weight beyond any forgettable elected head of state.

The brand of Monarchy with some exceptions, rises above the grubby sleazy corrupt world of politics.

I will be amongst the global audience savouring every moment of King Charles III’s coronation, the spectacle, the pageantry.

I have my doubts about the longevity of King Charles III reign, however early days.

I can't say I am a fan of Lloyd Webber horror musicals Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, it is all a matter of taste and Charles call after all.

I wonder. How many people have a chance to earn a living by being involved in this? Florists, dressmakers, cooks, cleaners technicians, photographers, jewellers... on and on.

I would think, they would much rather be paid for their professional contribution to this historical event, than waiting in the unemployment line for a government handout.

Just a thought.

I would be very interested to see the source of these "polls".

I wonder how many tax payers would like the chance to keep the money spent on this in their pockets?

The cost of the queen's funeral total was more than £1 billion including the additional security measures, extra police, movements of troops, and police overtime.

Total figures are hard to discover and vary enormously—from about £8 million to about £6 billion.

The basic cost of the coronation is £100+ million but does not include the cost of additional security, extra police, and movement of troops. It will cost more than £1 billion.

Time to end the monarchy.

The majority of Brits support it but the figures have decreased since the death of the queen.

If the majority of Brits support it, why would you end it?

My views have been the same for more than five decades. An end to the monarchy. But I also realize it won't happen anytime soon because a smaller majority still support it but younger people have a different view.

The monarchy is the pinnacle of the British class system with outdated ceremonies and an award system mostly based on the previous British Empire. An unelected House of Lords. No real separation of church and state.

Who’s talking about ‘handouts’ to the unemployed?

What next? Saying it would be better than subsidizing a woke theatre group?

I’m more interested in the tightrope the royals are on from a PR point of view. Getting rid of all the pomp diminishes the whole thing in the eyes of some while going full first lord of putting the the bog roll on the holder is just obscene to others.

The royals will increasingly need very good PR staff.

Just don’t use taxpayers’ money to pay them.

Self-financing royal family paying taxes. No head of state. Elected second house.

The majority also supported Brexit and look how dumb that is turning out to be.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The majority also supported Brexit

The majority of those who voted supported Brexit. I think only 30% of the actual population voted for it.

Although, by not voting against it, they allowed it to happen. One of the bigger own-goals ever scored by a country.

2016 Brexit referendum results.

Total votes   33,577,342.

Registered voters/turnout   46,500,001.   72.21%

Leave   17,410,742   51.89%.

Remain   16,141,241   48.11%.

52% of 72% is roughly 37%. So I was in the ballpark:

The majority of those who voted supported Brexit. I think only 30% of the actual population voted for it.

Many workers of the royal family are on low incomes.

Pray tell wallace, is there not a whiff of Utopian socialism, Prince, now King Charles wouldn't necessarily disagree.

I am convinced King Charles is hiding or stealthily keeping the fundamental changes King Charles is planning proposing private and confidential.

At the moment.
