The 90s Gamera films took a kiddie-friendly concept and turned it on its head... also, in the third film, he asked the question: what about the innocent people killed when kaiju fight... when you look at the films, all of the films with kaiju, even the good monsters kill people. I have a lot of hope that Higuchi can use his experience of working on the Gamera films to work his magic on Godzilla...

The US film was a great Godzilla film and gave him an interesting reboot, but it'll be nice to see what a Japanese reboot will be like... and if they use Ifukube's classic theme.

No Godzilla film is set without the theme music that everyone knows and includes the really corny ones.

The happy-go-lucky monsters encapsulate a long-lost era, when the world had enjoyed relative peace, over the decades after World War II, especially in insular Japan.

“That’s why I want to make a new Godzilla,” Higuchi said quietly

What rubbish.

I won't hold my breath, most Japanese movies and dramas have pretty bad acting, really overdramatic and hamming it up. If, somehow, it's actually decent, I'll certainly go see it.

I enjoyed the Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla"...I doubt Higuchi-san can top that one..

What Month each year, I am so hanging out of this Godzilla movie. He absent from Godzilla has sourly been miss. A Maser Higuchi made Godzilla movie will make last years Godzilla movie look worse then what it actually is. Wonder if he will continue the lives of Moto 1 & 2 ?

Shinji Higuchi is not unfamiliar with Godzilla. His work (uncredited on assisted SPFX) with Godzilla goes all the way back to The Return of Godzilla (1984), as well as a SPFX sequence on Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack that involved Godzilla retaliating against jet fighters. Of course, as mentioned, Higuchi-san worked on the SPFX of another well-known Kaiju in Gamera, when Toho revived the character in 1995. From what I understand, Higuchi-San was selected to work on Godzilla due to his work on the live-action Attack on Titan films. The new Godzilla film will apparently be co-directed with Hideaki Anno, who is world famous for his involvement in such anime classics as Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gunbuster & many other popular projects. I look forward to it.
