In US bookstores, there is always a large shelf of MANGA translated into English. Why aren't these US comics translated into Japanese for sale here? Gay people should at least try to get this published.

Nobody likes spoilers, even if it is Archie.
John Galt
Eeeew.

I grew up reading Archie comics during rainy days at the lake. Some were funny. Sometimes the humor was a bit feeble, but there wasn't much competition once you were a bit too old for Richie Rich and Casper. And jughead was always good for a laugh.
Sad that the Archie writers have lost their sense of humor and have gone for drama. That's not what it was ever about. Did they really need to kill off the main character? Depressing.

I didn't know he was still being published. Frankly the comics were lame all those years ago, only interest in reading them was that is was in the US (thrilling) and about teens growing up (educational). the humour was pretty weak.

hmp... Bet Archie will be just be in a suspended animation or he was sent to the past/future and a dummy replace him just before he was going to be shot, or something like that.... like every comic book character of the US, Archie will comeback
Captain America did it, Spiderman did it, Batman did it, Superman did it... Archie will do it too.
DiscoJ
The book that he 'dies' in is just a 'possible' future (like Kingdom Come or The Dark Knight Returns for those who know your comic books). The 'real' Archie will be continuing as normal.

Figures--it is is American, a gun is involved.

When I turned 13 my father threw out my Archie comic book collection and forbade me to read it any more. Nothing against Archie per se, he just wanted me to read real books. Thanks, Dad!!!

Note that the Life with Archie comic book is more or less an alternate history storyline of what the life of Archie and the gang living as adults. As such, it exists outside of the normal Archie Comics continuity.
Harry_Gatto
Didn't know about this Archie Andrews but I can remember Peter Brough in Educating Archie; another Archie Andrews.
Disillusioned
Spoiler much?

I didn't know Archie "grew up"................... kinda weird

Wakarimasen
Married BOTH od them sounds good. what happened to Jughead?

@Galt: 'wwww' what do you mean? Are you disgusted by the spectrum of human sexuality the comic is embracing.
John Galt
YingYang, look it up. Eeeewwww.
Thunderbird2
Because they're lousy?
YongYang
@Galt. You misunderstand --there's a surprise-- I asked, what do YOU mean not what does it mean. QED.

I'm soooo tired of this gay bandwagon.

Apparently, this series is another alternative timeline for comicbook Archie. Looking at the sales figures, the series was dying anyway, so they might as well go out with a bang. (What? Too soon?)

According to dailycartoonist poster Jim Laveey - Unfortunately, Archie Comics strategy was to kill off their sales before they killed off their main character.

'I'm soooo tired of this gay bandwagon.'
Get off it then.

In USA, superhero comic books sell well along with their DVD versions in Walmarts. Universal, Warners, etc. publish very well. We can watch superhero action TV series and anime version series. Archie? Nothing. CN, MeTV, Disney Channels are among these channels that handle their cartoon anime TV series. .

Its all about marketing and recently gay has become a selling point, its fashionable and trendy to cater to the gay group now.
Used to not be that way once and will probably go that way again in time, but right now it sells.
Wish people would just get over themselves and the gayness, its also cool to be straight, in fact in most places its cooler. PC brigade don't think so though.

I used to read Archie in my teens, more than 40 years ago. At that time there were not so many comic books. But I preferred Beano and Dandy. Although I have not read Archie for so long, it is sad to hear of his passing. Maybe this can change some gun laws in the US for their own sake!
John Galt
YingYang, I understand full well. I meant, "Eeeewwww!" If you prefer unnatural copulation, then that's your choice. But don't expect others to have the same opinion. Your choice, not everyone's.
Wolfpack
@YongYang
The "spectrum of human sexuality" is pretty wide. Their is a lot to be disgusted by.
YongYang
@Galt, ah, found your 'voice', well done! But Woodrow Tracy does it for you? Eeeewwww! 'Unnatural'? Happens right through nature.
lostrune2
Yuri and yaoi also sell.
John Galt
"'Unnatural'? Happens right through nature."
Sure, lots of things happen in nature, including beasts eating their own kind. Shall we promote that as well?
valekt
He can't just save his 'friend', he has to save his 'gay friend'. If they're bringing sexuality into the spotlight, why not race as well? Why not get way more specific? Archie saves his 19 year-old black, gay, junkie friend. Is it a victory for gay people to be represented like this?
YongYang
@Gault: Non sequitur. Arguing a different point to validate a point is a fallacy in argument.
DaveAllTogether
Killing off a main character: the last refuge of desperate writers.
wtfjapan
"'Unnatural'? Happens right through nature." agreed but unless gay animals can become hermaphrodites then theyll become extinct really quickly.
Wolfpack
Very true. It's amusing that some adherents of the Darwinian viewpoint have trouble with how 'survival of the fittest' fails to mesh with their modern views of sexuality. Archie's brave sacrifice and the impending demise of his comic book demonstrate his foolish failure to heed Darwin's view of the natural - and comic book - world.
