Artsy undies on display at the Triumph Inspiration Awards

Women's underwear maker Triumph Japan held a lingerie design contest, "Triumph Inspiration Award 2009," in Tokyo on Monday. The winner of the contest, which featured 740 different items of lingerie of all shapes and sizes, was 21-year-old Yukino Kurosu, a 3rd year student at Bunka Fashion College.

Kurosu's winning undies, called the "Sprouting Inner," were modeled after the freshness of young cabbage and made especially for young, modern women, Kurosu said. "I hope my creation will be worn by aspiring young women," she said. Her designs will be displayed in Milan at the end of September.

The 2009 Triumph image girl, 20-year-old Hiromi Nishiuchi, appeared at the contest in a design that captured the grand prize in the international competition last year. Called "Under Skin," Nishiuchi called them her "lucky undies" and said that, "They're definitely something I'd want to wear on a special day." Under Skin will be sale from Aug 6.

I am an artist. Why was I not allowed to design? Selfish aren't we.

Designer Yukino Kurosu, right, stands with a model wearing her award-winning creation.

Does someone actually have to point out which one of these two is the designer?... : )

I think Govt should consider "Cool Biz Award" for Triumph !

I just love some of the comments that come out of these articles...either the translation is dodgy or it just makes you love Japan..... the "freshness of a young cabbage" is interesting - I think there are other vegetables or fruit however that would spark my ideas for designing ladies lingerie....but why is it that we dont get comments like "special day" etc coming out of the west?

or the model is very tall or yukino is very small

If ia were a designer...I work with beautiful models... I am designing lingeire/underwear...I've created a piece of work called "Sprouting Inner" based upon "freshness"....The last thing I would think of is cabbage!!!!! Alot of things would be sprouting , but not cabbage!

Has Triumph ever made an attractive set of undies? I have seen countless articles/photos of their stuff on JT over the years and it all looks ridiculous. Perhaps they peddle their worst stuff in Japan, leaving the better stuff for other markets. I dunno.

UGLY!!!!

Model has 12cm heals and 10cm of teased hair, she's nearly the same height as the designer.

If the model was any hotter, her "young cabbage" would turn into kimchi.

Take away the article and let your mind run free... J-pop star Cabbage recently held a news conference to reveal her plans to marry long time girl friend lucky undies, shown on the left.

What is the model's name, and how tall is she?

OK, cabbage leaves as a design print is definitely NOT my idea of an award-winning concept. It makes you wonder what the LOSERS thought up... Cast-iron lingerie?

This photo brilliantly depicts some of the wonderful variations of Japanese women. The neurotic mousy hikikomori type, and the fatuous sex crazed fashion disaster type. As Fadamor suggests, it'd be fun to see what the runners up submitted.

“Sprouting Inner,”

Would “inner growth” not been a slightly better way of translating this? Then again given that we are talking about cabbage maybe not.

Having been a “designer” for nearly 40 years all I can say that I hate, with a passion, design students, I even hated them when I was one. They are an embarrassment to everybody except themselves.

I don't know that I'd go so far as to say the designer was "mousie". She is cute in her own way. Can't comment on whether she's neurotic, either, from a photo. Although I guess you could make a case for her having "issues" based on her choice of fabric print. :) She's only in her third year at college, though, so I'll give her points for being gutsy enough to enter the contest as a relative amateur.

JKoffman was correct as well in that, if you remove the platform-soled heels and the puffed-rice hairdo, the model appears to be only a tiny bit taller than Kurosu-san.

I would like to share a special day with her . . .

zurcronium - With Nishiuchi? What about this year's model?

Looks fresh to me

This cabbage thing, does it have anything to do with Triumph working from China now? If Russians made something with Cabbage, I can understand.

The designer forget to put cabbage design on the shoes.

Sprouting Inner ?

Geez,,,,,,,,,, anything that " grows " in the undies cannot be good !!

Womanforwomen, I could be wrong, but I don't think shoes are considered "lingerie" - which is what the contest was for.

Well, after seeing this, my new dream is to become curator of an undie museum.
