Astronaut Furukawa appears in SoftBank Mobile commercial

Astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, 47, appears in the new SoftBank Mobile commercial with actresses Aya Ueto, 26, and Kanako Higuchi, 52.

The commercial's theme is "Do you want to go into the universe?" As the father (dog) of the Shirato family gazes up at the night sky, Furukawa says: "Can you hear me, Shirato family?" from the International Space Station's Kibo experiment module.

The father then says: "I wish I could travel into space instead of him," while looking at Furukawa who is floating in zero gravity. His daughter (Ueto) and wife (Higuchi) look on, behind him.

The TV commercial will air from Saturday.

Do you want to go into the universe?

I am already there, thank you.

Sounds like a hilariously captivating commercial. Family communicates with astronaut in space and dreams of escaping from the shallowness and repetition of the producers' ad concepts.

Also glad to see the Japanese astronauts doing something useful in space, like advertising instant noodles and cell phones.

I bet the SoftBank reception sucks in space, too.

The Softbank marketeers are obviously on the good stuff. Their commercials, however, are thankfully free of Hollywood celebrities making knobs out of themselves. @cactusjack makes a valid point, so why the thumbs down?

SB commercials are free of Hollywood celebrities? Just off the top of my head I can think of Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarrentino being in their commercials...

Commercials with popular stars like Aya Ueto make me happy. She is very cute. The white dog is very funny. He makes me laugh, especially when family member look on behind him. I wet myself when I see these commercials. I want to buy more and more products that are advertised on TV.

“I wish I could travel into space instead of him,”

Well, NASA will test the Orion space ship in 2014. Even it is scheduled to be unmanned, it doesn't say anything about being undogged (?). So, enlist as "Laika 2" and wait.
