Atsuko Maeda posters displayed in Akihabara in run-up to her 'graduation' from AKB48

The upcoming "graduation" of AKB48 member Atsuko Maeda, 21, is being commemorated by a "photograph exhibition" at JR Akihabara Station.

The "graduation," a word used by the idol group's management as a euphemism for quitting or leaving the group, is being marked by a series of 150 posters of Maeda displayed in and around the station in an exhibition that has been named "Shuku! AKB48 Sotsugyo Kinen: Maeda Atsuko Poster-ten."

The photos include those used in magazines and other publications during the seven years since she joined the group in 2005.

The exhibition is scheduled to open on Aug 24, to coincide with the first day of AKB48’s three-day Tokyo Dome concert. The posters will be displayed until Maeda’s "graduation" on Aug 27.

paul- presumably it is a retrospective exhibit of her time in the group/ her life.

Ms. Maeda knows what's good to eat. In the left photo she is eating a fresh tomato.

AKB48 would be less excited without her.

No, she doesn't. You may be getting confused, since so many western 12 year olds look 21 these days, but trust me, she looks 21.

And even if she did look 12, so what? Is she supposed to apologize for it or be ashamed or something? Good for her for looking younger than her years. Your comment makes no sense at all, and the negative undertone with vibes of contempt is just silly.

Come on JT posters - by now I would have expected many more crazed rants regarding an article mentioning AKB48 - the most successful Japanese pop act in decades. They are too commercial, exploitive, not talented, etc... You guys used to take pop music so seriously - what happened?

She is not graduating, she is not popular and being kicked out more than likely.

I feel like their going WAY overboard with this. 150 posters to commemorate Atsuko Maeda's graduation? They would of never done this for any of the other members to be honest. It's almost as if their marking the end of an era. Truthfully, as an AKB48 fan, I think from here they are going to go nowhere but down. They really can't get any more popular than they are now, and the lifespan of an idol group is relatively short. Good for Acchan that she left when the group was at the very top, and not when they become a sinking ship just begging to be terminated.

Redefining pathetic. Good on her for getting out while the going's good, but this is over the top even for an idol band.

She was found to have a boyfriend and kicked out of the group to set an example, this is old news, AKB are not allowed to date boys or have boyfriends. The only reason she wasn't kicked out straight away is that they needed time for people to forget so that when they kick her out they can still make money from her doing other stuff.
