'Attack on Titan' manga to become Hollywood live-action movie

Could Hollywood stop to turn any popular anime into a movie? Currently, I know they are working also on a live action movie or series of Your Name, My Hero Academia, and One Piece. Honestly, I don't feel the need to see the same story told from a western point of view.

Mr. Isayama, your manga is already known and appreciated around the world. A Hollywood adaptation won't make it necessarily more popular. For example, both the anime and manga of Dragon Ball and Death Note are way more popular and loved worldwide than their American live action adaptations...

Well, at least Attack On Titan is Japanese-free; all the characters are white with the single exception of Mikasa, the last of Japanese race. When Mikasa dies, Japanese race is officially extinct.

This makes it a lot easier for Hollywood localization, unlike stuff like Ghost In The Shell, Death Note, Dragonball etc. No whitewashing controversy. The question is, what will they do about nudity? Dress up the giants in cavemen clothing?

Disturbing historical revisionism / ultranationalist manga. Why on earth would people like Muschetti and Heyman want to be involved? Don't they understand what it's about?

Could you stop complaining about any Hollywood movie before you've seen it, as you've done incessantly in the past? Perhaps they'll do a good job, perhaps not. I suggest we wait and see and then decide. Adaptations from one genre to another, particularly from novels to stage and/or screen, tend to lose a lot. Manga and anime not so much, depending on how well it's done.

I mean, it can't POSSIBLY be as bad as the Japanese Attack on Titan they put out last year. They've got a decent director, and while Masi Oka sold out with shows like Heroes and later his role in Hawaii Five-0, he might do well in this. Give it a chance! Hate it later if it's bad. Lots of movies from comics and cartoons have been successful.

@Smith: I am not complaining about the movie in particular, but about a TREND in Hollywood. I don't get the necessity of these remake live actions. I think cinema needs more original contents than adaptations in general. What did I do "incessantly" in the past? Probably I commented a couple of times topics like this, stop judging me in a completely random way. Thanks.

I believe I had expressed my preoccupation for the Death Note adaptation, because it is one of my favorites anime/manga post 2000s.

And I was right: Netflix adaptation was so bad to the extent that almost tainted the reputation of the original source. Many of the ones who watched only the Netflix movie, weren't able to understand because such a mediocre story could be so popular. When some of them saw the anime after the movie, finally they got how different they are, and why Death Note is so loved worldwide. Sometimes these live actions can be a bad advertising for the original source, and I am sad for this.

You're kidding right? There's been 'Batman Ninja', an anime Iron Man series, the multiple anime Marvel superhero movies and the two anime Starship Troopers films. That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

Japan has no problem animating Hollywood movies. It goes both ways. I don't mind, usually the results are fun to watch.

And yet again, you miss the point -- you were griping about it BEFORE you saw it. You had judged it before you knew what it would be like. Therefore, if it was truly bad, you were just lucky in your guessing. And you weren't talking about a general TREND, you were saying Hollywood (not other movie industries, and Netflix is not Hollywood) needs to stop doing this specifically with anime. That's not general. So, stop judging until you've seen it. And I find it amusing you demand in the same argument that they start creating more original content and then reference Netflix (as "Hollywood"), which has more original content out there at the moment (much of it horrible, I concede) than any other company out there, including the Japanese manga and anime industries.

Hogwash. The Japanese movie industry has copied movies from overseas countless times, and sometimes without permission. Not nearly as bad as Bollywood, but still. Isn't there a whole comic genre that rips off other nations' stories and is worried about copyright law changing to affect them?
