Avril Lavigne starts Japan tour in Hamamatsu

Niigata?! Good grief!

Apparently she's playing the convention centre where my old office is. That's quite a coup for Niigata (I'm not a fan of Avril myself, but she's unquestionably a big name). I think the last Western artist of any renown to play Niigata was Yngwie Malmsteen (saw him twice - not a bad was to spend an evening), and before that, Radiohead (the year before I went to Niigata).

Apparently there's not enough crappy pop here already, they've got to import it.

I missed the show, had to work. Interesting to know how it went. She should have been able to pack more than 5,000.

Im out of the loop music-wise, is this just a case of "big in Japan" and fizzled out overseas or is she still popular overseas?

Her music is not that good. But to each there own.
